Description
When the current runs into the thousands of amps, a rigid clamp often will not fit. So the Tektronix TRCP3000 Rogowski probe takes a different route. A Rogowski current probe senses current with a bendable coil that you loop around a conductor. The coil senses the changing magnetic field. Then the probe electronics turn it into a voltage for your scope. Lost in HCM offers this model for rental and sale in Vietnam.

What the TRCP3000 measures, and what it cannot
Tektronix rates the TRCP3000 at 3000 A peak, with bandwidth from 1 Hz to 16 MHz. That low end reaches well below mains frequency. However, a Rogowski coil only sees changing current, so the probe cannot report DC or a steady offset. Also note that 3000 A is a peak figure, not a continuous RMS rating. In addition, typical accuracy is ±2% of reading, and the smallest current it lists is 500 mA.
Scaling the 2 mV/A output
The output feeds a BNC input set to 1 MΩ. Its sensitivity is 2 mV per amp. For example, 1000 A of current shows up as 2 V on the screen. So set that factor in the scope’s probe menu, and the trace reads in amps. The coil itself has an 8.5 mm cross-section, so check that it fits the gap around your conductor.
Heavy-current jobs for the Tektronix TRCP3000 Rogowski probe
- Large motor drives and inverters in power-conversion labs.
- Welding machines, because their current pulses are large and brief.
- Bus bars and thick cables in factory power panels.
- Field tests where you cannot open the circuit to add a shunt.
Fitting the loop
Wrap the loop around one insulated conductor and close it as the manual shows. Then power the probe from its specified supply. If the loop holds both supply and return, the fields cancel and the reading drops. Before you start, check the insulation and voltage category, and de-energize the line if the manual requires it.
Rental or purchase through Lost in HCM
A rental fits a commissioning job, an energy audit or a one-time fault study. Buying, on the other hand, fits a power lab that measures big currents every month. In both cases, request a quote from Lost in HCM. Include your scope model, peak current, frequency and conductor size. You can also browse the oscilloscope probes category, see Tektronix for the manual, or contact SMK Vietnam.
TRCP3000 FAQ
Can the Tektronix TRCP3000 Rogowski probe measure DC?
No. It reads AC only, from 1 Hz to 16 MHz. For DC you need a clamp such as the TCP0150.
Is 3000 A a continuous rating?
No. It is a peak figure. So check the manual for the limits that apply to your frequency and pulse length.
Which scope input does it use?
It connects to a BNC input set to 1 MΩ. Set the scope scaling to 2 mV/A so the trace reads in amps.
