Description
Sometimes a differential signal is simply too large for a low-voltage active probe. The Rohde & Schwarz RT-ZA15 attenuator is a 10:1 external attenuator that fits on the front of an RT-ZD differential probe. It scales the signal down, so the probe can read higher levels than it could on its own.

Rated figures from R&S
| Item | R&S value |
|---|---|
| Attenuation | 10:1 |
| Bandwidth | 2.0 GHz |
| Capacitance | 1.3 pF |
| Maximum input | 60 V DC, 42 V AC peak |
| Compatible probes | RT-ZD10, RT-ZD20, RT-ZD30 |
| Order number | 1410.4744.02 |
Rohde & Schwarz also notes that the RT-ZD10 ships with this attenuator. So RT-ZD20 and RT-ZD30 users order it as a separate item. For voltage limits, follow the manufacturer’s manual and ratings.
How the Rohde & Schwarz RT-ZA15 attenuator changes a measurement
The attenuator divides the input by ten before it reaches the probe amplifier. As a result, a larger signal fits inside the probe’s own range. The trade-off is clear in the R&S data: the attenuator path tops out at 2.0 GHz. Therefore, use it when signal level is the problem, and remove it when you need the full bandwidth of the bare probe.
Typical jobs
- Reading a differential signal that clips on the bare probe, while it stays within the attenuator ratings.
- Keeping one RT-ZD probe on the bench for both small and larger signals, instead of swapping probes.
- Giving an RT-ZD20 or RT-ZD30 the same extended range an RT-ZD10 kit already has.
On the R&S product photo
The photo shows a slim silver body with a blue nose and two gold contacts marked plus and minus. In addition, its label reads RT-ZA15, 10:1 and 2.0 GHz, along with a maximum-input warning.
Ordering
SMK Vietnam lists the part, while Lost in HCM rents and sells it and arranges service on request. Name your RT-ZD probe and dates, then request a quote from Lost in HCM. Also check the R&S probe accessories page, browse oscilloscope probes, or contact SMK Vietnam.
RT-ZA15 FAQ
Do I need the RT-ZA15 if I own an RT-ZD10?
Usually not, because Rohde & Schwarz includes it with the RT-ZD10. Confirm what came with your probe before ordering.
What bandwidth does the Rohde & Schwarz RT-ZA15 attenuator support?
R&S lists 2.0 GHz with 1.3 pF of capacitance.
How much voltage can it take?
R&S gives 60 V DC and 42 V AC peak. Follow the manufacturer’s manual and ratings.
