Description
A scope with low input capacitance calls for a probe that can compensate down to it. The Tektronix TPP0100 passive probe does that: its compensation range starts at 8 pF and ends at 18 pF, and the listing pairs it with BNC inputs of 1 MΩ / 13 pF. It is also a 10X single-ended passive voltage probe with 100 MHz bandwidth. Lost in HCM rents and sells it in Vietnam and arranges service on request.

Why the 13 pF figure matters
In practice, a passive probe forms a divider with the scope input. If the probe cannot balance the input capacitance, square waves look rounded or spiky, and amplitude drifts with frequency. That is why the listing pairs this model with 13 pF inputs, while the TPP0101 lists 20 pF inputs. Check your scope’s manual before you choose.
Quick specification
- Bandwidth: 100 MHz.
- Attenuation: 10X.
- Input resistance: 10 MΩ.
- Tip capacitance: under 12 pF, typical.
- Cable length: 1.3 m.
- Compensation range: 8-18 pF.
- Scope input: BNC, 1 MΩ / 13 pF.
Compensating the Tektronix TPP0100 passive probe
First, clip the probe to the scope’s probe calibration output and display the square wave. Then turn the adjustment until the top of the wave runs flat. If it peaks or sags, the probe still needs work. In addition, repeat the check when you move the probe to a new channel, since inputs differ slightly.
Where it earns its place
Field service kits, quality labs and training rooms can keep the Tektronix TPP0100 passive probe on hand for routine checks on supplies, logic and sensor lines. For example, a service team can keep spares with each scope so that a broken tip never stops a job. Rentals cover short peaks, while purchases restock the bench. TPP0100 questions
What is the main difference from the TPP0101?
The scope input it targets. This probe lists 1 MΩ / 13 pF and 8-18 pF compensation, while the TPP0101 lists 1 MΩ / 20 pF and 15-25 pF.
Is the bandwidth the same?
Yes. Both listings give 100 MHz at 10X, so speed does not split them.
Can it measure mains voltage?
Not with its ground lead on a live node. For mains work, use a rated differential or isolated system and check the voltage limits in the manual.
