Description
Silicon carbide stages switch fast, and their high-side nodes float far above earth. The Tektronix TIVP05 IsoVu probe gives you a view of those nodes at 500 MHz. It is an isolated voltage probe, so the signal travels as light over a 2 m fiber to an interface on a TekVPI oscilloscope.

Choosing among the six TIVP versions
Lost in HCM lists three bandwidths, each with a short or a long fiber. The table shows where the TIVP05 sits.
| Model | Bandwidth | Fiber |
|---|---|---|
| TIVP02 | 200 MHz | 2 m |
| TIVP02L | 200 MHz | 10 m |
| TIVP05 | 500 MHz | 2 m |
| TIVP05L | 500 MHz | 10 m |
| TIVP1 | 1 GHz | 2 m |
| TIVP1L | 1 GHz | 10 m |
In short, this is the mid-bandwidth, short-fiber option. It covers more speed than the TIVP02, while the TIVP1 remains for the fastest edges.
Common-mode and differential limits
Each tip has its own differential range. The family covers ±5 V up to ±2500 V, yet only a high-attenuation setup reaches the top end. For the family, common-mode capability reaches ±60 kV under manufacturer conditions, with derating for frequency and safety. Because of that, read the manual for the exact tip you plan to use.
SiC work with the Tektronix TIVP05 IsoVu probe
Gate drive tuning is a common task. For example, an engineer can watch the high-side gate while adjusting gate resistance. Switch-node ringing is another target, and so is dead-time timing in a half bridge. Teams that build traction or solar inverters may also find it useful.
How to order the TIVP05
Lost in HCM rents and sells the probe and arranges service on request. Rental works well for a SiC prototype phase or a customer demo. On the other hand, a purchase suits a team that debugs inverters all year. To request a quote from Lost in HCM, note your scope model, the bandwidth you need, and the differential and common-mode levels. You may also explore more oscilloscope probes, visit Tektronix, or contact SMK Vietnam. For each SiC test, follow the manufacturer’s manual and ratings with the Tektronix TIVP05 IsoVu probe.
TIVP05 FAQ
When does 500 MHz make more sense than 1 GHz?
When your edges do not need the full speed of the TIVP1. Compare your expected edge times with each model before you choose.
What does the 2 m fiber mean for setup?
The scope should sit near the board. For more distance, look at the TIVP05L with 10 m.
How do I connect it?
Fit the sensor tip to the circuit, run the fiber to the interface, then plug the interface into a TekVPI scope.
