Description
High-voltage DC supplies, pulse generators and ignition circuits often produce signals measured against ground. The Tektronix P6015A high-voltage probe brings those signals down to a level the scope input can take. It is a passive, single-ended probe with 1000X attenuation and 75 MHz bandwidth.

P6015A ratings at a glance

DC rating versus pulse rating
The two voltage numbers mean different things. 15 kV DC is the continuous rating. By contrast, 40 kV peak applies only to specified pulses up to 100 ms, and derating still applies. Frequency derating forms a separate limit as well. So check all three before you connect to a test point.
Setting up the Tektronix P6015A high-voltage probe
First, confirm that your scope input works with the probe. Then compensate it with the manufacturer procedure; its compensation range covers 7 to 49 pF. Set the scope to 1000X so the readings scale correctly. Also connect the reference lead to an approved earth point, as the grounding instructions describe. Because the probe reads ground-referenced waveforms, floating nodes call for an isolated probe instead.
Typical work
HV power supply makers can check output behavior at start-up and under load. Similarly, service teams for electrostatic coating or pulse equipment may use it on ground-referenced outputs. Research labs also find a passive divider handy, since it needs no probe power.
Ordering the P6015A
Lost in HCM rents and sells the P6015A, and it arranges service on request. A rental suits a single HV commissioning job or a test campaign. For regular high-voltage work, a purchase may make more sense. To request a P6015A quote from Lost in HCM, give the scope model, the voltage and pulse profile, and whether you need the 1R readout version. You can also compare other oscilloscope probes, visit Tektronix, or contact SMK Vietnam. Follow the manufacturer’s manual and ratings with the Tektronix P6015A high-voltage probe.
P6015A questions
Can it hold 40 kV continuously?
No. The continuous rating is 15 kV DC. The 40 kV peak figure covers specified pulses up to 100 ms only, with derating.
What loading does it put on the circuit?
Input loading is 100 MΩ with 3.0 pF.
Which readout version will I get?
Optional 1R readout coding exists. Confirm the ordered version with Lost in HCM.
