Description
Not every design runs at the very top of the bandwidth chart. For mainstream embedded work, the Rohde & Schwarz RT-ZD30 probe is a sensible middle choice. It is an active differential probe with 3 GHz of bandwidth, a 10:1 ratio and a 1 MΩ input in parallel with 0.6 pF.

A balanced choice for embedded boards
Board bring-up often means checking clock pairs, embedded serial buses and differential sensor lines. Most of these sit well inside 3 GHz. So the RT-ZD30 covers them without the cost of the fastest model. In addition, a differential front end ignores much of the ground noise that plagues single-ended probing on dense boards.
What R&S lists for the RT-ZD30
- Order number: 1410.4609.02.
- Bandwidth: 3.0 GHz.
- Maximum voltage: ±5 V differential and ±8 V from each input to ground.
- Attenuation: 10:1.
- Input: 1 MΩ in parallel with 0.6 pF.
Reading the voltage window
Two limits apply at once. First, the gap between the two inputs must stay within ±5 V. Second, each input must stay within ±8 V of ground. Logic-level pairs fit easily, yet a signal riding on a high DC level may not. Therefore, measure the common-mode voltage before you clip on.
Two helpers on the Rohde & Schwarz RT-ZD30 probe
The probe carries R&S ProbeMeter, which acts as a built-in voltmeter for DC levels. It also has a micro button that R&S lists for instrument control. Together they cut trips to the scope front panel while you hold the tip in place.
Before you place an order
The RT-ZD30 plugs into Rohde & Schwarz oscilloscopes that have the R&S probe interface. Tip modules and accessories may carry their own order numbers, so confirm the kit. Lost in HCM rents and sells the Rohde & Schwarz RT-ZD30 probe and arranges service on request, while SMK Vietnam lists it only. Questions about the RT-ZD30
Is 3 GHz enough for my design?
For most embedded buses and clocks, yes. If your edges are very fast, compare it with the 4.5 GHz RT-ZD40 before you decide.
How does it differ from the RT-ZD40?
R&S lists 3.0 GHz and 0.6 pF for the RT-ZD30, while the RT-ZD40 reaches 4.5 GHz with 0.4 pF. The voltage limits and ratio match.
Which scopes accept it?
Rohde & Schwarz oscilloscopes with the R&S probe interface. Confirm your exact model with Lost in HCM.
