Tektronix TPP1000 Passive Probe, 1 GHz, 10X, 10 MΩ, Under 4 pF, TekVPI

The Tektronix TPP1000 passive probe is the 1 GHz, 10X model of the TPP line. It loads the circuit with under 4 pF, connects through TekVPI and runs on a 1.3 m cable. Lost in HCM rents and sells it.

Description

Fast digital edges punish a slow probe long before they punish a slow scope. The Tektronix TPP1000 passive probe is the 1 GHz member of the TPP line: a passive, single-ended voltage probe with 10X attenuation. It joins the scope through a TekVPI interface and keeps tip capacitance under 4 pF. Lost in HCM sells it, rents it out for projects and arranges service on request.

Where 1 GHz pays off

Timing work is where this probe earns its place. For example, setup and hold checks, clock edges and bus transitions all need a clean rise on screen. Because the input capacitance stays below 4 pF, the tip also disturbs those fast nodes less. So you see the circuit’s own edge rather than one the probe has slowed down.

TPP1000 figures from the listing

  • Probe type: passive, single-ended voltage probe.
  • Bandwidth: 1 GHz.
  • Attenuation: 10X.
  • Input resistance: 10 MΩ.
  • Input capacitance: under 4 pF.
  • Cable length: 1.3 m.
  • Interface: TekVPI, on a supported scope input.

Getting a clean edge with the Tektronix TPP1000 passive probe

A 1 GHz probe only shows 1 GHz detail when the rest of the path keeps up. Therefore, pair it with an oscilloscope whose bandwidth suits the whole measurement, not just the probe. Next, keep the ground lead as short as the test point allows, since a long loop can ring on fast edges. Then check compensation and the attenuation setting before you save any results. Finally, look up your exact scope model in the Tektronix probe selector to confirm it accepts this probe.

Buy for the lab or rent for a project

R&D teams that debug high-speed boards often want one on every bench, so a purchase makes sense there. On the other hand, a rental suits a short board bring-up, a design review or a supplier audit. In both cases, Lost in HCM prepares the quote. Send your scope model, the job and any accessories you need, then request a TPP1000 quote from Lost in HCM. Tektronix TPP1000 passive probe FAQ

Will it make my 500 MHz scope behave like a 1 GHz one?

No. Probe bandwidth is only one part of system performance, so the scope still sets its own limit. Loading and ground geometry also shape the waveform you see.

Is it simply a faster TPP0500B?

Going by the listings, yes: only bandwidth splits them. Both are 10X, 10 MΩ, under 4 pF and 1.3 m, while the TPP1000 reaches 1 GHz and the TPP0500B stops at 500 MHz.

What scope connection does it use?

A TekVPI interface. It needs a supported oscilloscope and input, so check your model in the Tektronix probe selector before you order.
