Tektronix TPP0200 Passive Probe, 200 MHz, 10X, 10 MΩ, for 1 MΩ / 13 pF BNC Inputs

The Tektronix TPP0200 passive probe is a 200 MHz, 10X single-ended voltage probe with a 10 MΩ input and a 1.3 m cable. It compensates from 8 to 18 pF and pairs with 1 MΩ / 13 pF BNC inputs.

Description

When a 100 MHz probe starts to round off your edges, the next step up is often a faster passive probe rather than an active one. The Tektronix TPP0200 passive probe gives 200 MHz at 10X, twice the figure of the TPP0100 listing. It needs no power, plugs into a BNC input of 1 MΩ / 13 pF, and compensates from 8 to 18 pF. Lost in HCM rents and sells it in Vietnam and arranges service on request.

What the extra bandwidth buys

Square edges hold far more high-frequency content than the clock rate suggests. So a probe with more bandwidth shows a cleaner rise and less false rounding. For example, PWM gate signals, SPI clocks and fast GPIO toggles look truer through a 200 MHz probe. Still, the probe is only one link, and the scope’s own bandwidth also sets the final picture.

Compensation range 8-18 pF
Scope input BNC, 1 MΩ / 13 pF

Pairing the Tektronix TPP0200 passive probe with a scope

Look up the input capacitance in your oscilloscope manual. If it falls between 8 and 18 pF, this probe can balance it. The listing points to 13 pF inputs, which sit near the middle of that span. By contrast, the TPP0201 targets 20 pF inputs. After you connect, trim the probe on the scope’s calibration output until the square wave turns flat on top.

Care and grounding

Keep the ground lead short, because a long loop adds ringing to fast edges. Clip the ground only to a point at safe ground potential, since a standard probe ground links to earth through the scope. For floating or mains nodes, switch to a suitably rated differential measurement system. Also check voltage limits and frequency derating in the model manual.

Quotes for the TPP0200

Teams often order the Tektronix TPP0200 passive probe as a spare for a production test bench, a lab refresh or a training room. Either a rental or a purchase works. Give your scope model and accessory needs, then request a TPP0200 quote from Lost in HCM. You can also browse more oscilloscope probes, see the datasheet on tek.com, or contact SMK Vietnam.

Buyer FAQ for the TPP0200

Should I pick the TPP0200 or the TPP0201?

Pick by scope input. This one suits 1 MΩ / 13 pF inputs, while the TPP0201 suits 1 MΩ / 20 pF.

Does a passive probe need batteries or probe power?

No. It works from any suitable BNC input with no power supply at all.

How do I know the compensation is right?

The calibration square wave shows flat tops with sharp corners, with no overshoot or droop.
