Description
One probe, two ranges: that is the main appeal of this model. The Tektronix TDP1500 differential probe switches between 1X for small signals and 10X for larger ones. At 1X it reads up to ±850 mV across its tips, while 10X opens the window to ±8.5 V. It lists 1.5 GHz bandwidth on a TekVPI interface. Lost in HCM rents and sells it in Vietnam and arranges service on request.

Choosing 1X or 10X
Use 1X when the signal is small and noise matters, such as a sensor output or a low-swing data pair. Then switch to 10X when the swing grows, for example on 3.3 V or 5 V logic measured between two nodes. Each step trades some sensitivity for range. So start at 10X on an unknown signal, and move to 1X once you know it fits.
Ranges that set the Tektronix TDP1500 differential probe apart
| Item | TDP1500 listing |
|---|---|
| Bandwidth | 1.5 GHz |
| Attenuation | 1X / 10X |
| Differential input | 200 kΩ, <1 pF typical |
| Differential range | ±850 mV at 1X; ±8.5 V at 10X |
| Common-mode range | ±7 V; 5 V RMS |
| Offset range | ±7 V |
| Nondestructive input | ±25 V DC plus peak AC |
| Interface | TekVPI |
How it compares with the TDP3500 and TDP4000
The two faster TDP listings reach 3.5 GHz and 4 GHz typical, with under 0.3 pF of input capacitance. However, they hold to a ±2 V swing and a −4 V to +5 V common-mode span. This probe gives up speed in return for much more room. In practice, it covers the many board signals that never need gigahertz-class edges.
Typical work
Embedded, automotive electronics and industrial control teams use this kind of probe on sensor bridges, gate-drive logic, motor feedback lines and low-voltage serial buses. It also suits a shared lab, because one probe handles both small and medium signals. Keep the two leads short and matched. Also confirm that each input stays within ±7 V of ground before you connect.

TDP1500 buyer questions
Can it measure mains voltage?
No. Its common-mode range is ±7 V, so line-voltage work needs a high-voltage differential probe.
Why would I choose it over a faster TDP?
Because it handles swings up to ±8.5 V at 10X and a wider common-mode range. For signals under 1.5 GHz, that range often matters more than speed.
What does ±25 V mean here?
It is the damage limit. Measure only within the listed ranges.
