Description

Thick cables carry the currents that matter most in a power system. The Tektronix TCP0150 current probe has a jaw wide enough for them. This AC/DC clamp connects through TekVPI, so a supported Tektronix scope powers it and shows the result in amps. Lost in HCM lists it in Vietnam for rental and purchase.

A large jaw for real power cables

The jaw takes a conductor up to 21 mm × 25 mm. That opening covers many battery leads, motor phase cables and inverter outputs. As a result, you can measure in place, without cutting a cable or adding a shunt. The 2 m lead also gives some room between the cabinet and the scope.

Two ranges, one clamp

The TCP0150 offers a 25 A range and a 150 A range. Use the 25 A range for smaller loads, so the trace fills more of the screen. Then switch to 150 A for full-power runs. Tektronix rates the probe from DC to at least 20 MHz, with 150 A RMS and a 500 A maximum peak pulse. Note that the peak depends on pulse width and amp-second limits. On DC, accuracy is ±3% warranted, or ±1% typical.

Fields that call for the Tektronix TCP0150 current probe

  • EV and battery labs that track charge and discharge current.
  • Solar inverters and UPS units under load tests.
  • Motor start and stall current in pumps, fans and compressors.
  • Maintenance teams that study a fault on heavy factory equipment.

Safe setup on high-current lines

Large currents raise the stakes, so plan the setup. First, check the cable insulation and the voltage category. Where the manual says so, switch off before you fit or remove the clamp. Next, degauss and zero through the scope. Finally, clamp just one leg of the circuit, since the feed and return wires together would null the reading.

How to order

A rental suits a commissioning job or a short battery test. Purchase suits a lab with steady power work. To get a price, request a quote from Lost in HCM and list your scope, expected current, frequency and cable size. You can also compare clamps in the oscilloscope probes category, check Tektronix for the manual, or contact SMK Vietnam.

TCP0150 questions

What cable size fits the Tektronix TCP0150 current probe?

Its jaw takes a conductor up to 21 mm by 25 mm. Measure your cable, including insulation, before you order.

When should I use the 25 A range?

Use it when the load stays well under 25 A. The trace then uses more of the screen and small changes are easier to see.

Does it need its own power supply?

No. A compatible TekVPI scope powers it. Confirm your scope model and its probe power with Lost in HCM.
