Description

A plain BNC socket is not enough for this probe. The Tektronix P6243 active probe is a 1 GHz single-ended voltage probe that takes its power through a TEKPROBE BNC interface. So a supported scope, or the adapter Tektronix specifies, belongs in the same order. It also lists a rise time under 350 ps, 10X attenuation and a 1.3 m cable. Lost in HCM supplies it for rental or sale and arranges service on request.

What the TEKPROBE BNC link means

An active probe carries an amplifier in its head, and that amplifier needs power. The P6243 gets it from the scope’s TEKPROBE BNC interface. A connector that only fits does not prove the pair will work. On other interfaces, the listing asks for a suitable adapter and power source instead. Therefore, give Lost in HCM your exact scope model before you book.

Data for the Tektronix P6243 active probe

  • Bandwidth: 1 GHz, probe only.
  • Rise time: under 350 ps.
  • Attenuation: 10X.
  • Input: 1 MΩ with no more than 1 pF.
  • Linear dynamic range: ±8 V.
  • Nondestructive limit: ±15 V DC plus peak AC.
  • Cable: 1.3 m.

Probe-only versus system bandwidth

The 1 GHz figure describes the probe alone. Once it sits on a scope, the whole chain sets the result, so a slower scope pulls the total down. In practice, pair it with a scope that has some headroom above your signal. Also note the gap between ±8 V and ±15 V. The first is the span it measures in a linear way. The second only marks the point where damage begins.

Jobs on compact assemblies

Use it to watch low-voltage logic, clocks and control lines on small boards, such as sensor heads, display drivers or controller cards. Keep the ground lead short, and pick a tip that reaches the pad without a long wire. Even a 1 MΩ, 1 pF input still loads a sensitive node a little, so allow for it when a reading looks odd. For instance, a weak bias line may shift slightly when the tip lands.

Booking it

Hire the P6243 for a prototype build, a failure study or a customer audit. Then buy one when the work turns routine. To start, request a quote from Lost in HCM and list your scope model, signal speed, voltage levels and tips. You can also compare other oscilloscope probes, open the Tektronix datasheet, or contact SMK Vietnam about the Tektronix P6243 active probe.

P6243 questions

What separates it from the P6245?

The P6245 listing gives 1.5 GHz, while this probe lists 1 GHz, probe only. Both list 10X and a 1 MΩ, ≤1 pF input.

Will it run on a TekVPI scope?

Only with the adapter and power setup that Tektronix specifies. Ask Lost in HCM to quote the full set.

What does the 350 ps rise time tell me?

It shows how fast an edge the probe itself can follow. The scope adds its own rise time on top.
