Description
Some current checks need no high-speed gear at all. A fridge compressor, a fan drive or a mains-powered heater changes slowly, so a simple clamp does the job. The Rohde & Schwarz RT-ZC03 probe is that kind of tool. It is a clamp-on current probe with 100 kHz bandwidth, a BNC output and battery power. You close the jaw around one wire, and the scope shows the current as a voltage.
What sets the RT-ZC03 apart
Several R&S current probes use the R&S probe interface or an external supply. This one, by contrast, has a plain BNC lead and its own battery. As a result, it does not rely on the scope for power, so check your scope input with Lost in HCM. The trade-off is speed. At 100 kHz it covers line-frequency and slow control signals, not fast switching edges.

The same photo shows an ON/OFF slide switch, a ZERO button and a status light. Zero the clamp before each reading, because a small offset can creep in over time.

Appliance and HVAC makers in Vietnam often log inrush and running current on new models. Electronics teams also check the input current of power adapters and small supplies. Meanwhile, maintenance staff can confirm that a pump or fan draws a normal current after repair. In each case, 0.1 V/A gives a readable trace for currents of a few amps.

The clamp needs no scope power, so pack a spare battery for long field days.
