Description
Refrigerated containers carry seafood, fruit and frozen goods out of Cat Lai, Cai Mep and Hai Phong every day. So before each trip, depot technicians check the reefer unit at the end of the box. However, many screws in its control box, sensor mounts and fan housings sit in tight corners. The Snap-on TQSS6FUAC torque driver fits those gaps and shows the torque each screw reached.

Reefer unit tasks for the Snap-on TQSS6FUAC torque driver
- Controller box lid and terminal bracket screws.
- Temperature sensor and probe holder clamps.
- Evaporator and condenser fan motor brackets.
- Access panel and inspection door screws, where the unit maker lists a value.
Reefer makers publish their own torque data, and electrical terminals follow separate rules. So check the service manual, and isolate power before you open any box.
Why a stubby body helps
The machinery bay of a reefer unit is shallow, and the next container may stand close by. The 5-1/4 inch TQSS6FUAC still slips into that space where a full-length driver would hit metal. Then the technician turns the screw, draws the driver out, and reads the held needle. In addition, that reading can go straight onto the pre-trip checklist.
TQSS6FUA in the U.S. driver chart
| Item | TQSS6FUA (CAT1500i p.336) |
|---|---|
| Model type | Stubby follow-up (2 needles) |

Snap-on prints this row in the US Reading driver chart of CAT1500i. The chart also notes that its drivers come without a certificate. However, per the same chart, adding a C to the stock number orders the certificate version. That makes the TQSS6FUAC the C model of the TQSS6FUA, and the partner title adds a chart.
Choosing targets on a 75 in-lb dial
Lost in HCM files this driver under US Reading Standard/2% Accuracy. In short, Snap-on’s grade holds the reading within 2% between one fifth of full scale and full scale. On the TQSS6FUAC the band runs from 15 in-lb to 75 in-lb, or about 1.7 to 8.5 N·m. For lighter screws, the 50 in-lb TQSS4FUA reads lower values more closely.
Depot care
Container yards are hot, dusty and salty. Therefore wipe the TQSS6FUAC after each unit and keep it in its PB47 case inside the workshop. Also zero the peak needle before you start each screw. Turn smoothly as the screw seats, since a jerk pushes the needle past the true value. Finally, send it for recalibration on your depot’s cycle.

Reefer technician FAQ
Can I use it on live terminals?
The catalog gives no insulation rating for it. So switch off and lock out the unit first.
Does the TQSS6FUAC take bits?
The CAT1500i chart lists it in the 1/4 in drive family without describing the bit interface. So ask Lost in HCM which adapter suits your screws.
Is a full-length version available?
Snap-on lists the TQS6FUA at 8-11/16 inches with the same 75 in-lb scale. Plus, it gives more grip on an open bench.
