Description
Not every small fastener is light. Control unit housings, sensor flanges and small motor covers often use machine screws that need several newton-meters. The Snap-on TQS6A torque driver covers that heavier end of screwdriver work, with a U.S. basic dial that reads to 75 in-lb. It is the largest size in the Torqometer U.S. reading driver chart.

Top of the scale: what 75 in-lb means
A full scale of 75 in-lb equals about 8.5 N·m. Because Snap-on guarantees 2% of reading from 20% of full scale, the useful band starts near 15 in-lb, or 1.7 N·m. So the TQS6A picks up where the 24 in-lb and 30 in-lb sizes run out of room.
| Item | TQS4A | TQS6A |
|---|---|---|
| Range | 50 in-lb | 75 in-lb |
| Increments | 1 in-lb | 1 in-lb |
| Length | 8-11/16 in | 8-11/16 in |
| Internal square drive | 1/4 in | 1/4 in |
| Case | PB47 | PB47 |
Pick the TQS4A when targets stay under 50 in-lb, since a smaller scale reads finer in proportion. Otherwise, the TQS6A gives more headroom.
The 1/4 inch internal square drive
Snap-on marks the 4 and 6 sizes with a 1/4 inch internal square drive in the handle. In contrast, the lighter sizes carry no such note in the chart. Before you plan a kit, therefore, ask Lost in HCM which bits and adaptors suit your screws.
Jobs for the Snap-on TQS6A torque driver
- ECU and gateway module housing screws at automotive electronics suppliers.
- Sensor and actuator mounting screws on engine and chassis parts.
- End cap and terminal box screws on small motors and pumps.
- Grounding and bonding screws in electrical cabinets, as the drawing allows.
Even so, your drawing or work instruction sets the value, not the tool.
Technique with a larger handle
At 75 in-lb, you will grip the TQS6A with the whole hand. Keep the shaft in line with the screw, because side load can upset the reading. Also, bring the needle up steadily rather than in jerks. The basic dial falls back to zero on release, so read the value at the moment you stop.
Common questions on the 75 in-lb TQS6A
Is there a stubby version of the Snap-on TQS6A torque driver?
Yes. Snap-on lists the TQSS6A, a 5-1/4 inch stubby basic driver with the same 75 in-lb scale.
Can the TQS6A hold a peak value?
No, it is a basic model. The TQS6FUA adds a follow-up pointer at the same range and length.
Should we use it to free seized screws?
No. Snap-on safety notes for torque tools warn against breaking fasteners loose, so use a plain driver for that.
