Description

Sixteen inch-ounces is exactly one inch-pound, or about 11 N·cm. At that level, a normal screwdriver gives no feedback at all. The Snap-on TQS008AC torque driver measures in that tiny band. It is a Torqometer basic dial driver with a U.S. scale, and Snap-on lists the TQS008A model with half-ounce steps.

Where the TQS008AC sits in the low range

Snap-on’s US reading Torqometer drivers start very small. The table below shows the three lowest standard models, so you can compare the steps:

Model Range Increments Length
TQS004A 8 in-oz 1/4 in-oz 8-5/8 in
TQS008A 16 in-oz 1/2 in-oz 7-3/4 in
TQS012A 24 in-oz / 1.5 in-lb 1/2 in-oz / 1/32 in-lb 7-3/4 in

So the TQS008A doubles the reach of the TQS004A, while it keeps a fine 1/2 in-oz step.

Reading the Snap-on TQS008AC torque driver

A basic model has one needle, according to Snap-on. As a result, that needle follows the torque while you turn and returns when you stop. Therefore, keep your eye on the dial during the pull. If your process needs a stored peak, the follow-up TQS008FUA adds a second needle for that.

Very light assemblies

  • Screws in camera, optical and laser modules.
  • Trimmers, small switches and miniature connectors.
  • Covers on hand-held meters and medical devices.
  • Checking the output of low-torque electric screwdrivers.

In each case, the TQS008AC shows whether the screw got its specified load or too much.

Notes on drive, case and accuracy

In terms of class, the TQS008AC belongs to Snap-on’s 1/4 in drive Torqometer group, under the standard 2% accuracy heading. Each driver also ships in a PB47 storage case, so it stays protected between jobs. In addition, Snap-on uses a C at the end of the stock number for the version with a certificate of calibration. The Lost in HCM title says “with chart” instead, so confirm the documents in your quote.

No stubby basic version

The catalog shows no stubby basic model at 16 in-oz, only the stubby follow-up TQSS008FUA. Keep that in mind if space is tight.

Handling tips

Hold the TQS008AC by the handle rather than the dial, and turn slowly. Also, store it in its case and keep it away from vibration. Then verify it on a low-range torque tester at a fixed interval.
