Description

Smart watches, earbuds and handheld sensors close with screws so small that the head barely fills the bit. At that size, the difference between seated and stripped is a fraction of an ounce-inch. The Snap-on TQS004A torque driver measures in exactly that zone. Its U.S. basic dial reads to 8 in-oz, and each mark equals 1/4 in-oz.

First row of the Torqometer chart

Snap-on lists the TQS004 size at the very top of its U.S. reading driver table. In other words, no basic Torqometer driver in that chart reads lighter. Also, its 8 in-oz full scale equals half an inch-pound, or about 5.6 N·cm. As a result, R&D and prototype labs reach for it when a value sits below what a 1 in-lb tool can show.

Snap-on TQS004A torque driver data

  • Model: standard basic, so one needle only.
  • Full scale: 8 in-oz.
  • Graduation: 1/4 in-oz.
  • Length: 8-5/8 in.
  • Reading: U.S. ounce-inch.
  • Storage: PB47 case.

Note that Snap-on prints no stubby basic version of this size. Instead, the short option is the TQSS004FUA, a 5-3/4 inch follow-up driver.

Micro screw jobs that suit the TQS004A

Engineers use a dial at this level to find the right value, then they set production tools to match. For example:

  • Housing screws on wearables and hearing devices during prototype builds.
  • Flex cable bracket screws inside phones and tablets.
  • Sensor and MEMS module screws on test boards.
  • Teardown checks, so a lab can log how tight a returned unit was.

Getting a clean reading at 8 in-oz

Snap-on rates Torqometer accuracy at 2% of reading from 20% of full scale. So on the TQS004A, plan targets from about 1.6 to 8 in-oz. Turn with your fingertips, because wrist force swamps this scale. Then pause as the needle nears the mark and finish with a slow quarter turn. Since the basic needle falls back on release, note the value at the stop.

Micro screw FAQ for the TQS004A

Is the Snap-on TQS004A torque driver the lightest Torqometer model?

Yes, at least among the U.S. reading basic drivers in the CAT1500i chart. Its 8 in-oz scale sits in the first row.

What if we need to record the peak?

Choose the TQS004FUA or the stubby TQSS004FUA. Both of them keep the 8 in-oz scale and add a follow-up pointer.

How do we convert a 3 N·cm spec?

Divide by about 0.706, which gives roughly 4.2 in-oz. That falls inside the TQS004A working band.
