Description
Cutter suction dredgers keep river mouths, canals and port channels open from the Red River to the Mekong. Also, their pumps, cutter drives and engines shake hard every working hour. The Snap-on TEXC1003TLA Torqometer helps dredge engineers tighten those heavy joints to the value in the manual. In addition, a lamp flashes at the target, while the dial reads both ft-lb and kg·m.

Dredger bolting with the Snap-on TEXC1003TLA Torqometer
A dredge pump wears fast, so crews open it often to swap liners and impellers. Each rebuild then ends with casing and cover bolts that need an even pull. The cutter ladder, spud carriage and winch frames also hold large fasteners. In addition, engine and gearbox mounts loosen under constant vibration. The TEXC1003TLA covers the joints in that list that fall within its scale.

Snap-on lists this head in the combination U.S./metric T-handle table, next to its follow-up twin, the TEXC1003TFUA. Per the same table, a trailing C on the stock number orders a certificate of calibration. Since the TEXC1003TLA code lacks that C, arrange your own check when it arrives.
A lamp over engine noise
Engine rooms on a working dredge stay loud, hot and dim. So a fitter may miss the moment a dial needle reaches the mark. Snap-on’s Signal models add a built-in light that flashes once the targeted torque arrives. Then the fitter stops the pull, and the joint avoids an overshoot.
Range planning for the Snap-on TEXC1003TLA Torqometer
Lost in HCM lists this model under Combination US/Metric Reading/Standard 2% Accuracy. Snap-on ties that grade to within 2% of reading between 20% of full scale and full scale. For this head, the floor sits at 200 ft-lb or about 27 kg·m. Meanwhile, the top value of 136 kg·m comes to roughly 1,334 N·m. Choose a lighter head for pump gland or guard bolts.
Mud, water and daily care
As a rule, river silt gets into every tool that works on a dredge. Therefore rinse off mud with a damp cloth, dry the TEXC1003TLA, and keep it in a sealed case. Also check the square drives for wear, because a worn socket fit can slip under load. Never use the head to free seized casing bolts, and send it for periodic recalibration.

Dredge crew FAQ
Will the lamp still show in bright sun on deck?
The source does not rate the lamp for daylight. Shade the head with your body, or work with a second person who calls the flash.
Does the TEXC1003TLA hold the peak like a follow-up head?
Snap-on describes Signal models by their flashing light, not by a second needle. If you need a held peak for the log, look at the TEXC1003TFUA.
Can I order the TEXC1003TLA with a certificate?
Per the catalog, adding C to the stock number orders the certified version. Ask Lost in HCM to quote that form if your client asks for one.
