Description
New factory sheds rise across Vietnam’s industrial parks, and many are pre-engineered steel buildings. Each one bolts columns, rafters and crane beams together on site, often in heat and wind. The Snap-on TESI500LA Torqometer helps erection crews check those joints in newton meters. In addition, it has a 500 N·m dial and a lamp that flashes at the target.

Steel building joints for the TESI500LA
- Anchor bolt nuts at column base plates.
- End plate bolts at rafter splices and knee joints, where the design gives a torque value.
- Crane runway beam and bracket bolts.
- Bracing, mezzanine and canopy connection bolts.
Structural bolts, however, often follow a set method such as turn-of-nut or tension indicators. So the engineer of record decides the method, and the TESI500LA serves joints that call for a torque value.
TESI500LA in Snap-on’s newton meter table
| Item | TESI500LA (CAT1500i p.334) |
|---|---|
| Square drive | 3/4 in |
| Range | 500 N·m |
| Increments | 10 N·m |
| Length | 29-7/8 in |
| Width | 3-1/4 in |
| Head depth | 1-25/32 in |
| Storage case | PB39 |
This row sits in Snap-on’s Newton Meter Reading/Standard 2% Accuracy table. However, the TESI500LA here is the base signal model, and its title lists no certificate. Per the same table, adding C to the stock number orders a certificate of calibration model. So ask Lost in HCM if your QA plan needs one.
Why a signal lamp helps at height
Erectors often work from boom lifts with one hand near the rail. So reading a dial while pulling is awkward and unsafe. The TESI500LA uses Snap-on’s built-in light, which flashes when the pull hits the targeted torque. Then the erector stops, checks the needle, and marks the bolt.
Where the 2% band begins on the Snap-on TESI500LA Torqometer
Lost in HCM lists this tool under Newton Meter Reading/Standard 2% Accuracy. Here Standard means a tolerance of 2% of reading, applied from 20% of full scale through 500 N·m. So on this dial, the band begins at 100 N·m. Smaller purlin and sheeting fasteners therefore need a lighter tool.
Site care
Steel dust, rain and sun can wear any dial. Therefore keep the TESI500LA in its PB39 case in the site container. Also tether it on lifts, and never use it to break loose a seized nut. Snap-on also advises periodic recalibration, so plan it with an outside lab before each new project.

Erection crew FAQ
Can it replace turn-of-nut tightening?
No. Follow the method your structural engineer sets, and use the TESI500LA where the drawings give a torque value.
Does the TESI500LA show ft-lb?
No. Instead, it reads newton meters only, on a 500 N·m scale in 10 N·m steps.
How do I get a certificate?
This base model lists none. Snap-on’s table says a C suffix orders a certificate model, so ask Lost in HCM about the C version.
