Description
High-rise towers in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi depend on elevators that run all day. Service crews visit on tight monthly rounds, with a small kit in one bag. The Snap-on TER25A Torqometer earns a place in that bag for light, critical screws. Its dial carries inch-pounds on one scale and newton centimeters on the other.

Why N·cm suits small machine screws
Light screw values often look awkward in N·m, such as 2.5 or 4.5. In N·cm, the same values read as 250 and 450, so there is no decimal point to misread. The TER25A scale runs to 3,200 N·cm in 50 N·cm steps. Meanwhile, the US side runs to 300 in-lb in 5 in-lb steps, which suits American kits and manuals.

Snap-on prints this row in its Combination US/Newton Meter Reading/Precise 1% Accuracy table. The same row lists a follow-up model, TER25FUA, and a signal model, TER25LA. Thus a team can move to a second needle or a light later and keep the same scale.
Jobs for the Snap-on TER25A Torqometer on a lift service round
- Door hanger and track bolts on landing and car doors.
- Door operator motor and belt tensioner mounts.
- Encoder, limit switch and sensor brackets in the shaft.
- Controller cabinet terminal bolts, where the label gives a torque.
Still, check every value against the lift maker’s manual. Guide rail clips and machine bed bolts, for example, usually need a much larger wrench.
Reading the needle with care
First, check that the needle rests on zero before the shift starts. Next, hold the grip and pull at a steady rate, square to the screw. Then stop at the mark and let the load off slowly. Also aim for targets well up the scale, where the needle travel is easiest to judge.
Shaft dust and storage for the Snap-on TER25A Torqometer
Lift shafts collect fine dust and rope grease. So wipe the wrench with a dry cloth before it goes back into the PB9 case. Then keep the case closed in the service van, out of the sun. In addition, Snap-on warns users not to exceed rated torque or break fasteners loose with a Torqometer. Plan periodic recalibration, as the catalog advises, with a lab your quality team approves.

TER25A questions from lift technicians
Can I convert N·cm to N·m on this dial?
Yes. Divide by 100, so 3,200 N·cm equals 32 N·m. The dial itself, however, shows only N·cm and in-lb.
Does the TER25A ship with a calibration certificate?
Snap-on’s catalog says certificate models carry a C suffix on the stock number. This listing is the plain TER25A, so ask Lost in HCM which papers come with it.
Which model keeps the reading after the pull?
The TER25FUA does. Its second needle shows the torque achieved, while the Basic TER25A has one needle only.
