Description
Cable cars carry visitors up Fansipan, out to Hon Thom island and over Ba Na Hills. Behind each ride, however, a maintenance crew walks towers, stations and cabins on a strict schedule. The Snap-on TER175FUC Torqometer gives that crew a Precise grade dial in both N·m and ft-lb. It has two needles and ships with a calibration certificate.

Ropeway checks run on records
In practice, ropeway makers and inspectors expect each check to leave a trace. So a crew that logs a real value on cabin or station bolts has an easier audit. The TER175FUC helps, because it shows the targeted torque and the torque achieved on separate needles. In addition, the calibration certificate gives the tool its own paper trail.
Data from the TER175FU row
| Item | TER175FU (CAT1500i p.334) |
|---|---|
| Square drive | 1/2 in |
| N·m range / steps | 230 N·m / 10 N·m |
| U.S. range / steps | 175 ft-lb / 5 ft-lb |
| Length | 18-3/4 in |
| Width / head depth | 2-3/4 in / 1-3/8 in |
| Storage case | PBR5 |
Snap-on prints this row in its Combination US/Newton Meter Reading/Precise 1% Accuracy table. The same table says the C suffix marks certificate of calibration models. Thus the TER175FUC is the C version of the TER175FU.
Station and cabin jobs for the Snap-on TER175FUC Torqometer
- Cabin frame, floor and door mechanism bolts during workshop service.
- Bracket and cover bolts on station drive and return units.
- Tower ladder, platform and walkway bolts.
- Mount bolts on guards and sensors, as the manual allows.
However, grips, rope clamps and other safety parts follow the ropeway maker’s own procedure and tools. So use the TER175FUC only where that manual calls for a torque value in its band.
What Precise 1% means here
Lost in HCM lists the TER175FUC under Combination US/Newton Meter Reading/Precise 1% Accuracy. Snap-on’s Precise grade holds within 1% of reading, from 20% of full scale to full scale. On this dial, the band starts at 46 N·m, or 35 ft-lb. Lighter screws on cabin trim therefore need a smaller tool.
Weather, height and care
Tower work also means wind, rain and long drops. So tether the TER175FUC on every climb and carry it in its PBR5 case. Also wipe off rain and grit before you put it away. Never use it to crack a seized nut, and book recalibration with an outside lab before the next inspection round.

Ropeway crew FAQ
Does the TER175FUC read both N·m and ft-lb?
Yes. The base row lists 230 N·m and 175 ft-lb on one dial.
Should I use it on rope grips?
Only if the ropeway maker’s manual allows it. In fact, grips often need their own tools and tests.
What does the certificate cover?
Lost in HCM’s listing names the certificate but not its contents. So ask Lost in HCM to describe it when you request a quote.
