Description
Large hydraulic fittings and big tube nuts need high torque, yet a socket often cannot get onto them. The Snap-on TECH4Z600 torque wrench takes interchangeable heads on a Z-size shank, 0.990 inch across. It reads from 60 to 600 ft-lb, or 81 to 813 N·m. So one electronic handle covers many heavy jobs where access is poor.

The shank size ladder
Snap-on sizes its interchangeable-head Techwrench models by shank. The J shank sits on the 20 ft-lb model, Y on the 100 ft-lb model, X on the 250 ft-lb model and Z on the TECH4Z600. Each head fits only its own shank size. Therefore, buy Z-size heads for this wrench, and keep them apart from smaller sets.

TECH4Z600 or TECH4R600?
Both models cover 60 to 600 ft-lb. The TECH4R600 has a fixed 3/4-inch ratchet head and sits in Snap-on’s 2% group, while the TECH4Z600 belongs to the 4% group. In return, the Z-shank model accepts heads that reach around hoses and frames. It is also shorter, at 42 inches before you add a head, versus 48 inches for the fixed model.
Head length and the reading
A long crowfoot head on the TECH4Z600 extends the lever past the handle. As a result, the torque at the nut can run higher than the display shows. Ask for Snap-on’s correction data for each head, and set targets with it.
Heavy jobs for the Snap-on TECH4Z600 torque wrench
- Large hydraulic hose and tube fittings on excavators and presses.
- Track adjuster and cylinder gland nuts.
- Big flare and union nuts on process piping.
- Bolts behind guards where a socket will not fit.
Care between jobs
Clean hydraulic oil off the Z shank and the heads after each use. Next, store the Snap-on TECH4Z600 torque wrench handle flat in its PBATECH4 case. Never use it to break a fitting loose, because Snap-on warns against that for every torque wrench. Also keep a recalibration date on the handle.
