Description

Maintenance teams reach for a 3/8-inch wrench more often than any other size. The Snap-on TECH2R100 torque wrench fills that slot with an electronic readout. It covers 5 to 100 ft-lb, which is 60 to 1,200 in-lb or 6.8 to 135 N·m. A sealed fixed ratchet head with 80 teeth sits at the working end.

Electronic readout versus a click wrench

A click wrench signals once, at the set value. Yet many users keep pulling after the click, so the joint can end up past its target. The TECH2R100 shows torque as it builds, and it alerts with a tone and a vibrating handle. Peak hold then keeps the highest value on the screen. As a result, the operator and the inspector both see what the joint received.

Choosing a range with the accuracy bands in mind

Snap-on publishes two accuracy bands for its ratchet-head Techwrench models:

  • 2% clockwise and 3% counterclockwise from 20% to 100% of full scale.
  • 4% clockwise and 6% counterclockwise from 10% to 19% of full scale.

On the TECH2R100, the tighter band runs from 20 to 100 ft-lb. So, if your joints sit between about 20 and 90 ft-lb, this wrench fits well. For targets under 20 ft-lb, the 1/4-inch TECH1R240 gives better accuracy. Above 100 ft-lb, step up to the 1/2-inch TECH3R250.

Where the Snap-on TECH2R100 torque wrench earns its keep

  • Motor terminal boxes, pump covers and coupling guards.
  • HVAC compressor and fan mounts.
  • Light vehicle engine and brake work.
  • Covers and housings on machine tools.

No angle mode

The TECH2R100 stops at preset, track and peak hold. If a spec adds an angle step, choose a TechAngle wrench such as the ATECH2FR125B instead.

Bench habits that protect it

Snap-on shapes the handle bottom as a stand, so the Snap-on TECH2R100 torque wrench does not roll off a flat bench. Even so, return it to its case after each job. Also let the auto shutoff save power, and swap all three AA cells at once.

TECH2R100 questions

What does peak hold do?

It keeps the highest torque of the pull on the screen until you clear it.

Which units does the TECH2R100 show?

The display switches between ft-lb, in-lb and N·m.

Is 5 ft-lb a good working value for it?

It sits at the bottom edge. Snap-on’s tighter accuracy band starts at 20 ft-lb, so pick a smaller wrench for light work.
