Description
Japanese-owned parts makers in Thang Long and Nhon Trach industrial parks often print torque values in kgf·cm. Their line staff, however, may borrow American tools marked in inch-pounds. The Snap-on TEC6A torque wrench settles that mismatch with both scales on one small dial. It uses a 1/4 inch drive and tops out at 90 kg·cm.

Reading kg·cm without a calculator
A drawing may call for 40 kgf·cm on a motor bracket screw. On the Snap-on TEC6A torque wrench, the technician reads that value straight off the metric scale in 2.5 kg·cm steps. Meanwhile, a visiting engineer from a US customer can follow the in-lb side. As a guide, 90 kg·cm equals about 8.8 N·m, so the tool covers light work only.

Small parts that suit a 90 kg·cm scale
The Snap-on UK torque brochure defines the Standard grade as within 2% of reading, from 20% of full scale to full scale, in both directions. So the TEC6A reads best from 18 to 90 kg·cm, or 15 to 75 in-lb. Typical joints include:
- Printer and copier frame screws during line trials.
- Small motor end bell and bracket screws.
- Sensor and encoder mounts on automation cells.
- Jig and fixture clamp screws on assembly benches.
Bench care for a 1/4 inch dial
Light tools take knocks on crowded benches. So return the TEC6A to its PB9 case between jobs, rather than leaving it among fixtures. Also keep it away from ultrasonic cleaners and solvent trays. Never exceed 75 in-lb, and never use it to loosen a stuck screw, because Snap-on warns against both. Then book recalibration at the interval your quality plan sets.

Questions from Japanese-owned plants
Do kg·cm and kgf·cm mean the same thing?
Yes. Both mean kilogram-force centimeters, and drawings use the two forms for the same unit.
Does the TEC6A read N·m?
No. Its scales show kg·cm and in-lb. To convert, multiply kg·cm by about 0.098 to get N·m.
Can I get a peak-hold version?
Snap-on’s TEC6FUA follow-up model adds a second needle that shows the torque achieved. The table lists no light signal model at this size.
