Description

Instant noodle plants in Binh Duong, Hung Yen and Bac Ninh run fast lines, many built in Japan or Korea. Dough mixers, sheeting rollers, steamers, fryers and cup sealers work almost nonstop. In addition, their manuals often give small screw torque in kgf·cm. The Snap-on TEC25FLA torque wrench reads that unit directly, and a lamp flashes when the screw reaches the target.

Reading Asian manuals as printed

A spec of 150 kgf·cm works out to about 14.7 N·m. Yet converting by hand at the line wastes time and invites mistakes. Instead, the Snap-on TEC25FLA torque wrench prints kg·cm on one scale and ft-lb on the other. So the fitter sets the target straight from the manual.

Snap-on TEC25FLA torque wrench data

Item TEC25FLA (CAT1500i p.335)
Square drive 3/8 in
Metric range / steps 350 kg·cm / 10 kg·cm
U.S. range / steps 25 ft-lb / 1 ft-lb

Storage case PB9

These figures come from the Combination US/Metric Reading/Standard 2% Accuracy table in catalog CAT1500i. The TEC25FLA code has no C, and its listing names no certificate. Per the catalog, the certificate of calibration model takes a C suffix, as in TEC25FLAC.

Noodle line jobs for the TEC25FLA

  • Cutter blade and waver screws after sheeting roller service.
  • Steamer conveyor guide and chain guard screws.
  • Fryer basket, mold and lid fixings, once the oil has cooled.
  • Cup filler, lid sealer and carton packer screws.

Fryers and steamers run hot, so lock out the line and let parts cool before you work. Then use the values in the line maker’s manual.

Why a lamp beats a dial here

Noodle halls are loud and humid, with steam drifting from the fryers. As a result, a dial can fog or sit at a poor angle. The TEC25FLA lamp flashes as the screw reaches the targeted torque, so the eye can stay on the part. Then the fitter reads the needle once the pull ends.

2% band on the TEC25FLA

Lost in HCM files this wrench under Combination US/Metric Reading/Standard 2% Accuracy. In short, Snap-on allows 2% of reading on that grade, from 20% of full scale to full scale. That puts the low end at 70 kg·cm, or 5 ft-lb. For small sensor and nameplate screws under that point, a torque screwdriver works better.

Steam, oil and storage

Frying oil mist and steam settle on every tool in the hall. So wipe the TEC25FLA after each job, and keep it in its PB9 case outside the fry zone. Snap-on rates the dial wrenches for 0 to 100 °F, so do not leave it on a warm fryer hood. Snap-on also warns against using any Torqometer to break fasteners loose. Finally, book recalibration with an outside lab at the interval your plant sets.
