Description
Aerospace, medical device and precision machining suppliers in Vietnam often build to American drawings. Also, those prints tend to state small torque values in inch-pounds. The Snap-on TE51 dial torque wrench reads that unit on a Basic dial up to 600 in-lb, with a 1/2-inch drive. So inspectors and fitters can follow the print as written.

Inch-pound work that fits the TE51
A 600 in-lb scale suits mid-size screws and bolts on precision parts. Typical jobs, for example, include:
- Fitting and bracket bolts on machined housings.
- Clamp and fixture bolts on CNC work holding.
- Cover and flange screws on pumps and small gearboxes.
- Torque audits on joints that operators closed with click tools.
As always, the drawing and the customer’s method come first.
Key figures for the Snap-on TE51 dial torque wrench
- Basic model with one needle that shows the torque achieved.
- Square drive of 1/2 inch.
- Range of 600 in-lb, marked in 10 in-lb steps so mid-scale values read cleanly.
- Overall length of 15 inches, or about 381 mm.
- Width of 2-11/16 inches and head depth of 1-5/16 inches.
These figures follow the US Reading/Standard 2% Accuracy table in Snap-on’s CAT1500i catalog. In addition, the table lists no storage case for this row.
TE51 or the 3/8-inch TE50A?
| Item | TE51 | TE50A |
|---|---|---|
| Square drive | 1/2 in | 3/8 in |
| Range | 600 in-lb | 600 in-lb |
| Steps | 10 in-lb | 10 in-lb |
| Length | 15 in | 12-1/2 in |
| Storage case | none listed | PB9 |
Both share one scale, so the choice comes down to drive size and reach. Pick the TE51 when your sockets and adapters use a 1/2-inch drive, or when a longer body makes the pull smoother. In tight spaces, by contrast, the shorter TE50A may fit better.
Habits that protect the readings
Keep your eye level with the dial face to avoid parallax error. Also pull at the grip, not the shaft, so the lever length stays the same. Snap-on’s brochure rates the Standard 2% grade from 20% of full scale, so stay above about 120 in-lb. In addition, never go past 600 in-lb. Store the Snap-on TE51 dial torque wrench in a padded drawer, and book periodic recalibration with an outside lab.
Sourcing the TE51 through our partner
Lost in HCM supplies the TE51 to factories across Vietnam, and SMK Vietnam lists it on its behalf. Simply request a quote from Lost in HCM and list the torque values on your drawings. Snap-on’s catalog says certificate of calibration models take a C suffix, so ask for that version if your customer requires one. Our torque wrenches page shows other sizes. Precision shop questions on the TE51
How does 600 in-lb compare with ft-lb?
Exactly 50 ft-lb, which is close to 68 N·m. The dial itself reads in in-lb only.
Will the TE51 hold the last reading?
No. It is a Basic model, so the single needle falls back when you release. Snap-on lists the TE51FU follow-up model for held readings.
