Description
Fishing fleets, ferry lines and marinas along the coast of Vietnam keep small marine engines alive in salt air. Their mechanics open outboard heads, gearcases and pump housings again and again. The Snap-on TE50FUAC torque wrench gives that work a clear dial in inch-pounds, so each bolt shows its load as it climbs. It is a U.S.-reading Follow-up Torqometer, and Lost in HCM lists it with a chart.

Why boat mechanics pick the Snap-on TE50FUAC torque wrench
Marine engines often pair aluminum castings with steel studs. As a result, one heavy pull can crack a housing or strip a thread. A dial lets the mechanic slow down near the target instead of waiting for a click. In addition, this Follow-up model carries two separate needles. Snap-on says they show the targeted torque and the torque achieved, so the TE50FUAC keeps both values on one face.
TE50FUA figures from the Snap-on catalog
| Item | TE50FUA (CAT1500i p.333) |
|---|---|
| Square drive | 3/8 in |
| Range | 600 in-lb |
| Increments | 10 in-lb |
| Length | 12-1/2 in |
| Width / head depth | 2-11/16 in / 1-1/4 in |
| Storage case | PB9 |
These values come from the U.S. Reading dial table in catalog CAT1500i. Per that catalog, a trailing C orders the version that comes with calibration paperwork, which explains the TE50FUAC code. Lost in HCM’s title adds that this unit ships with a chart. For reference, 600 in-lb equals 50 ft-lb, or about 68 N·m.
Jobs on the slipway
- Cylinder head and thermostat cover bolts on outboard powerheads.
- Gearcase fasteners after a seal or water pump change.
- Raw water pump housings on small inboard diesels.
- Brackets for steering, trim and fuel system parts.
However, propeller nuts and engine mounts on larger craft may need more than the TE50FUAC offers. So check the service manual before you start.
TE50FUAC grade and working band
Lost in HCM files the TE50FUAC under US Reading/Standard 2% Accuracy. By Snap-on’s definition, that grade stays within 2% of reading between 20% and 100% of full scale. On this dial, the band therefore starts at 120 in-lb. Tiny carburetor and cover screws belong on a smaller Torqometer.
Salt air care for the Snap-on TE50FUAC torque wrench
Salt spray attacks tools fast, even chrome ones. So wipe the wrench dry after each job and return it to its case, away from wet gear. Snap-on gives these dial wrenches an operating range of 0 to 100 °F, roughly -18 to 38 °C. Never use the TE50FUAC to free a corroded bolt; a breaker bar handles that. Also book outside recalibration on the cycle your workshop sets.

Marine workshop FAQ: Snap-on TE50FUAC torque wrench
Will the TE50FUAC suit outboard head bolts?
Often it will, when the spec falls between 120 and 600 in-lb. Still, confirm the value in the engine manual first.
Does the dial read newton meters too?
No. The TE50FUA dial reads inch-pounds only. So convert N·m specs first, or choose a combination Torqometer.
Is the chart the same as a certificate?
The listing title names a chart, not a certificate. So ask Lost in HCM what the chart holds before you order.
