Description

Animal feed mills in Dong Nai, Long An and Binh Duong grind, mix and pellet grain for pig, poultry and fish farms. Their hammer mills, mixers and bucket elevators shake all day, and fine meal dust settles on every guard. So maintenance teams retorque many mid-size bolts during each planned stop. The Snap-on TE100L Torqometer covers that band with a 100 ft-lb dial and a lamp that flashes at the targeted torque.

Feed mill joints that suit the Snap-on TE100L Torqometer

  • Motor base and coupling guard bolts on hammer mills.
  • Paddle and ribbon mounting bolts inside batch mixers.
  • Head pulley bearing blocks on bucket elevators.
  • Drive brackets on chain conveyors and screw feeders.

Equipment builders list their own values, though, and some die and roller bolts sit well above this dial. Thus, check the machine manual first. Then reserve the TE100L for joints that fall inside its scale.

Signal light versus dust and noise

Hammer mills roar, and a film of meal can dull a dial face within one shift. For that reason, the flashing lamp on the TE100L earns its place. The fitter sees the light at the targeted torque, even with ear defenders on. Meanwhile, the needle keeps the reading visible for the maintenance sheet.

The Snap-on TE100L Torqometer shares one row on page 333 of catalog CAT1500i with the TE100 basic and TE100FU follow-up models. The catalog also says that wrenches in the chart come without a certificate of calibration. Per the catalog, a C added to the stock number orders the certificate version, so ask Lost in HCM about the TE100LC if your auditor wants papers.

Pick the range with the 2% band in mind

Lost in HCM lists the TE100L under US Reading/Standard 2% Accuracy. In Snap-on’s terms, that means within 2% of the reading from one fifth of the scale up to the top. As a result, the rated band on this wrench runs from 20 to 100 ft-lb. Heavier die bolts need a larger frame.

Keeping a dial wrench clean in a feed plant

Store the wrench in its PBR5 case, because meal dust and steam reach most corners. Wipe the guard after each job. In addition, pull steadily by the grip and stop once the lamp flashes. Snap-on warns against breaking fasteners loose with a Torqometer and against going past the rated torque. It also rates the line for 0 to 100 °F, so keep the TE100L off hot conditioner housings. Finally, schedule periodic recalibration with an outside lab.

Feed mill FAQ for the TE100L

Is the TE100L right for pellet mill die bolts?

Check the pellet mill manual first. If the value sits above 100 ft-lb, step up to a larger signal dial such as the TE250L from the same table.

What does 100 ft-lb equal in N·m?

About 136 N·m. Because the dial reads ft-lb, convert metric manual values before you pull.

Does the TE100L come with a case?

Snap-on’s row lists a PBR5 storage case. Even so, confirm the box contents with Lost in HCM.
