Description
Container terminals at Cai Mep and Lach Huyen load ships around the clock with ship-to-shore quay cranes. Each crane carries trolleys, hoists, booms and spreaders, and all of them shake under heavy boxes. So crane crews retorque key bolts during each planned stop. The Snap-on TE1003LC Torqometer gives them a 1,000 ft-lb dial, plus a lamp that flashes at the target.

Quay crane joints for the Snap-on TE1003LC Torqometer
- Trolley wheel block and drive motor base bolts.
- Hoist gearbox and brake bracket bolts in the machinery house.
- Spreader headblock and twistlock housing bolts during a refit.
- Boom hinge covers and rail clip bolts where the crane maker lists an ft-lb value.
Crane builders write their own torque tables, however, and some joints call for tensioning tools instead. So start with the crane manual. Then use the TE1003LC on joints whose value sits inside its dial.
A lamp for the machinery house
Hoist drums, fans and motors make the machinery house loud, and the light can be poor. In addition, the fitter often pulls from an awkward angle near the drum. The TE1003LC helps here because its built-in light flashes when the targeted torque arrives. Meanwhile, the needle still shows the reading for the crane log.
The TE1003L row in Snap-on CAT1500i
| Item | TE1003L (CAT1500i p.333) |
|---|---|
| Square drive | 1 in |
| Range | 1,000 ft-lb |
| Increments | 10 ft-lb |
| Length | 66-13/16 in |
| Width / head depth | 3-9/16 in / 2-1/32 in |
| Extension handle | 92TQPA 4 ft tubular, packed separately |
Snap-on prints this base row in its US Reading/Standard 2% Accuracy table. Per the catalog, a C added to the stock number orders the certificate of calibration version. Thus the TE1003LC is the C form of the TE1003L. Lost in HCM also titles it with Chart, so ask what papers ship with it.
Where the 2% band begins
Lost in HCM files this wrench under US Reading/Standard 2% Accuracy. Snap-on defines that grade as within 2% of reading from 20% of full scale up to full scale. On the TE1003LC, the band therefore starts at 200 ft-lb. For small covers and guards, pick a lighter dial from the same family.
Wind, salt and a long lever
A wrench close to 67 inches long, plus a 4 foot handle, needs a clear swing path. First, tie the TE1003LC to a tool lanyard when you work aloft. Then pull smoothly, and stop as soon as the lamp flashes. Also wipe off salt spray and grease after each shift. Snap-on rates the Torqometer line for 0 to 100 °F, and it warns never to break bolts loose with one. Finally, plan periodic recalibration with an outside lab.
Order the Snap-on TE1003LC Torqometer
Terminal operators, crane service firms and port engineers can source the Snap-on TE1003LC Torqometer from Lost in HCM, the SMK Vietnam partner. Before the next crane stop, request a quote from Lost in HCM. Our torque wrenches range lists lighter dials as well. You can also check snapon.com or contact SMK Vietnam with sizing questions.
Quay crane FAQ for the TE1003LC
Does the TE1003LC hold a peak reading?
Snap-on describes the signal model by its flashing light, not a held needle. For a second needle that stays at the peak, look at the follow-up TE1003FU.
Is the extension handle part of the order?
Snap-on’s base row lists a separately packed 92TQPA 4 foot tubular handle. Still, confirm the box contents with Lost in HCM.
Can it free a seized twistlock bolt?
No. Snap-on warns against breaking fasteners loose with a Torqometer. Use a breaker bar first, then tighten with the dial.
