Description
Swivel nuts on 3/4 in hydraulic tube often measure 1-1/4 in, and they take many turns to run down. The Snap-on RTWH80Y flare nut head handles that run with a ratcheting 12-point ring. It slides over the tube, wraps the nut, and then clicks back for each new stroke on a Y-shank body.

What the RTWH80Y listing gives
- Size: 1-1/4 in, 12-point, ratcheting.
- Shank: Y (0.560 in).
- Standard: Boeing ST2599, according to the Snap-on data in the listing.
- Metric sizes: on special order, per the same data.
CAT1500i prints this size as the RTWH80YSL, with SL letters. The partner listing drops them, so we do not assume the two parts match in every detail. In particular, we leave out the pin distance for the RTWH80Y, and Lost in HCM confirms it.
A near miss with 32 mm nuts
A 1-1/4 in hex measures 31.75 mm across flats. As a result, the RTWH80Y opening is a quarter millimeter too small for a true 32 mm nut. It will not slide on, and forcing it could mark the head. Metric lines therefore need a metric tool. In that case, ask Lost in HCM about Snap-on’s special-order metric sizes.
Choosing the wrench behind the Snap-on RTWH80Y flare nut head
Snap-on’s J ratcheting heads stop at 7/8 in, so this size needs a Y body:
- QC3P150 preset, 30-150 ft-lb.
- QD3IN200B dual scale, 40-200 N·m.
- CTECH2Y100A ControlTech, 5-100 ft-lb, with a stored head-length factor.
A ratcheting head sits farther from the pin than a solid one. So a click body set by its scale will not show the true value at the nut. The ControlTech body corrects for this through its factor. For the QC or QD bodies, get Snap-on’s setting method from Lost in HCM first.
Ratchet, solid ring or 6-point at 1-1/4 in
Snap-on also lists a solid 12-point Y head at this size, the QYRX40A. Its 6-point inch flare table, however, ends at 1-1/8 in. So the Snap-on RTWH80Y flare nut head is the quick option for run-down, while the QYRX40A is the steady option for a final pull at the standard 3.00 in spacing.
Looking after the Snap-on RTWH80Y flare nut head
Large heads collect grit from hoses and frames, so clean the RTWH80Y after each hydraulic job. Next, test the ratchet by hand for an even, positive click. Also store it apart from smaller heads, because a knock can bend the open ring.

Questions on the RTWH80Y suffix and fit
Does the missing SL suffix on the RTWH80Y matter?
Either may suit a 1-1/4 in nut. CAT1500i prints only the SL number, so let Lost in HCM confirm which part it can supply.
Will it fit a -12 JIC swivel nut?
Many do, because a 1-1/4 in hex is common on -12 JIC nuts. A caliper check settles it.
What happens on a 32 mm nut?
The head will not go on. Its 31.75 mm opening is smaller than a true 32 mm hex.
