Description
Interchangeable heads cover many nuts, but sometimes the job calls for a plain socket. The Snap-on QZD32A-1 drive adaptor gives a Z-shank torque body a 1 in square drive. You can then fit heavy 1 in drive sockets to the same body you already trust.

What the Snap-on QZD32A-1 drive adaptor does
Snap-on describes it simply as an adaptor from Z shank to 1 in drive. The Z shank measures 0.990 in, the largest of Snap-on’s four shank sizes. As a result, the adaptor pairs with Snap-on’s biggest interchangeable bodies, which already work in the hundreds of ft-lb.

Adaptor or ratcheting head?
A ratchet lets you run a nut down without lifting the socket. For that, Snap-on also offers the QZD32BDP ratcheting head, with a 1 in drive on a Z shank. The QZD32A-1, by contrast, suits jobs where you only need a square drive to carry a socket. In both cases, make the final pull a smooth, steady stroke.
Setting the body with the QZD32A-1
Snap-on sizes its standard Z heads at 5.75 in from fastener center to the retaining pin. Its dual-range bodies assume that spacing, so they need no length math with standard heads. However, the catalog does not print a length for this adaptor. Therefore, ask Lost in HCM to confirm the effective length before you set a click body. ControlTech wrenches make this easier, because they store a calibration factor for head length.
Care and safe use
Check the 1 in square for rounded corners and a worn detent before each shift. Also keep the shank clean, since grit stops the pin from seating. In addition, Snap-on warns against using torque bodies to loosen fasteners. Finally, keep socket and extension stacks short, because each joint adds play.
