Description

M18 is a size where ISO and DIN agree, because both give the nut a 27 mm hex. So one ring serves M18 joints on machines from Europe, Japan and Korea. The Snap-on QYXM27A box end head offers that ring on the Y shank (0.560 in), the middle step in Snap-on’s range. It suits M18 work that needs more than a J body but not the bulk of an X or Z tool.

Four shanks share the 27 mm row

In Snap-on’s UK torque brochure, 27 mm is one of the few ring sizes offered on all four shanks. The J rings stop here, while the Z rings begin at 24 mm. Also, every version shares the same 39 mm width and 17 mm depth. Only the shank and the reach change, and the QYXM27A sits 3.00 in from the pin.

  • QJXM27A: J shank, 2.50 in reach.
  • QYXM27A: Y shank, 3.00 in reach.
  • QXXM27A: X shank, 4.50 in reach.
  • QZXM27A: Z shank, 5.75 in reach.

Y bodies that drive the Snap-on QYXM27A box end head

The QD3IN200B gives 40-200 N·m, or 37-140 ft-lb, on a 23 in tube. That dual scale helps, for example, when a European drawing lists N·m. For fixed values, the QC3P150 and QC3P200 presets cover 30-150 and 40-200 ft-lb. Meanwhile, the CTECH2Y100A reads 5-100 ft-lb and keeps a digital record. Whichever you pick, hold the setting at or below the ring limit that Lost in HCM confirms.

Why the QYXM27A page shows no limit

Snap-on’s brochure and the partner listing print different maximum working torques for the Snap-on QYXM27A box end head. So we leave the figure off rather than guess. Instead, ask Lost in HCM to put the limit on the quote. Then note it on the station sheet next to the target value.

Clearance for an M18 ring like the QYXM27A

This ring needs about 19.5 mm from the nut center to a wall, which is half of its 39 mm O.D. At 17 mm deep, it also clears covers that would block a socket and adapter. In addition, a 12-point ring re-seats every 30 degrees, so a short swing still works. Snap-on warns against using these heads to break fasteners loose, though. So crack a seized M18 nut with a breaker bar first.

M18 ring questions for the QYXM27A

Is a 27 mm ring correct for every M18 nut the QYXM27A meets?

Yes, for standard nuts. ISO 4032 and DIN 934 both use a 27 mm hex at M18.

Will the QYXM27A lock into an X-shank wrench?

No. Each shank locks only into its own body, so an X wrench needs the QXXM27A.

Which Y body suits a 100 ft-lb M18 spec on the QYXM27A?

The QD3IN200B puts 100 ft-lb in the upper part of its 37-140 ft-lb scale. The QC3P150 preset also covers it.
