Description

A 3/4 in steel tube nut often needs more torque than a light J body can give. The Snap-on QYRXS24A flare nut head covers that gap. Its slotted 6-point ring slides over the tube, then wraps the nut on all six flats. In addition, it plugs into any Snap-on Y-shank (0.560 in) body, so the reading still comes from a calibrated wrench.

CAT1500i prints the 104 ft-lb limit. The UK Torque Brochure lists 1,245 in-lb, which works out to the same value. So you can plan every setting around that ceiling.

How far each Y body can go with this head

  • CTECH2Y100A ControlTech, 5-100 ft-lb: its full scale stays under the head rating, so every value is fair game.
  • QD3IN200B, 37-140 ft-lb (40-200 N·m): stop at 104 ft-lb, or about 141 N·m, because the scale runs past the head.
  • QC3P150 preset, 30-150 ft-lb: lock the preset at or below 104 ft-lb.
  • QC3P200 preset, 40-200 ft-lb: the same cap applies, so it only suits specs in the lower half of its scale.

In short, the ControlTech is the only body that runs out before the head does. On the other three, the QYRXS24A sets the limit. Also, Snap-on quotes QC accuracy at ±4% clockwise from 20 to 100% of full scale. Therefore pick a body whose scale puts your spec above that 20% point.

Compressor skid lines and the Snap-on QYRXS24A flare nut head

Picture a US-built compressor or chiller skid in a Binh Duong plant. Its oil and coolant lines may use inch tube nuts, and some measure 3/4 in across the flats. A crowfoot on a normal wrench would change the lever length, so the setting needs a correction. By contrast, this head keeps the standard Y spacing that QD bodies expect. Then the technician sets the value from the skid manual and pulls to the click. Measure each nut first, though, because a 19 mm hex sits very close to 3/4 in.

6-point or 12-point at 3/4 in

Snap-on also makes the QYRX24A, a 12-point Y ring at the same size with the same 104 ft-lb rating. Its twelve points index in smaller steps, which helps when the swing is short. The 6-point Snap-on QYRXS24A flare nut head, however, pushes on the flat faces rather than near the corners. As a result, it treats soft or worn nuts more kindly. A J-shank twin, the QJRXS24A, exists as well, but both Snap-on books give it a lower limit.

Common QYRXS24A shop-floor questions

Can a CTECH2Y100A reach the QYRXS24A limit?

No. Its scale ends at 100 ft-lb, just under the 104 ft-lb head rating. So the whole ControlTech range stays usable with this head.

Will the QYRXS24A seat on a 19 mm nut?

It may, because 3/4 in equals 19.05 mm. Still, test the fit on the real part first. For metric lines, Snap-on also makes a 19 mm Y head, the QYRXSM19A.

Can I free a stuck tube nut with this head?

No. Snap-on warns against using its interchangeable heads to break fasteners loose. Crack the nut with a plain line wrench, then torque it with the head.
