Description

Big hex sizes usually force a big wrench. The Snap-on QYOM34A open end head breaks that rule at 34 mm, because Snap-on offers no J-shank head at this size. So the Y shank is the lightest way to put controlled torque on a 34 mm nut, such as a large hydraulic adapter, a gland nut or a press bolt.

Why the lightest shank matters at 34 mm

A Y body is shorter and lighter than a Z body. For example, the Y-shank QD3IN200B measures 23 in long, while the Z-shank QD4IN800A runs 41-1/2 in. That difference matters on a ladder, inside a machine guard or under a frame. So if your 34 mm joint sits within the Y range, the QYOM34A saves effort and space. Above that range, Snap-on also lists the QXOM34A for X bodies and the dual-pin QZOM34ADP for Z bodies.

Setting a Y body for the Snap-on QYOM34A open end head

The QD3IN200B reads 37 to 140 ft-lb. According to Snap-on, it needs no adjustment calculation with heads at the 3.00 in Y spacing. Preset QC3P150 and QC3P200 bodies also take Y heads, at 30 to 150 and 40 to 200 ft-lb. However, set any value only after Lost in HCM confirms the head limit. Then lock the preset and mark it, so nobody changes it on the line.

Clearance at 68 mm across

The QYOM34A measures 68 mm across, which is about twice the nut size. Therefore it needs a clear arc beside the fastener. Its 14 mm depth, meanwhile, lets it slide under a low flange or a guard lip. Measure both gaps before you order, especially on crowded manifolds.

Neighbors at 32 and 36 mm

Snap-on lists Y heads one step either side of the QYOM34A: the QYOM32A at 32 mm and the QYOM36A at 36 mm. The 36 mm size is the common M24 hex, so check the drawing before you assume 34 mm. Also measure an old nut with a caliper, because paint and corrosion can hide the true hex.

Caring for the QYOM34A

Large jaws carry heavy loads, so inspect the faces for spread or burrs after hard use. Then clean the shank and pin. Finally, keep the head off hard floors, because a drop can bend the jaw tips.
