Description
A 14 mm hex appears on hydraulic adapters, fluid-line fittings and some compact machine bolts. The Snap-on QYOM14A open end head brings that size to a Y-shank torque body. It is also the smallest open-end head in Snap-on’s Y column, so it marks where the Y range begins.

Catalog data for the QYOM14A

| Fastener center to retaining pin | 3.00 in (QYOM series) |
Same rating as the J head, so why choose Y?
Snap-on lists two 14 mm open-end heads. The QJOM14A and the QYOM14A both carry 55 ft-lb, because the small jaw sets the limit, not the shank. Therefore the Y version adds no torque. Instead, its value lies in fit: it lets a station that already runs Y bodies handle 14 mm nuts without a second handle. If you own only J bodies, the QJOM14A is the simpler buy.
Reading 55 ft-lb on a Y body
Y bodies target heavier work, so check where 55 ft-lb lands on the scale. The QD3IN200B dual-range body reads 37 to 140 ft-lb, so only its lower part suits the Snap-on QYOM14A open end head. The QC3P150 preset starts at 30 ft-lb, which leaves a usable band up to 55 ft-lb. By contrast, the QC3P200 preset begins at 40 ft-lb. Meanwhile, a J body such as the QC2I75 (5 to 75 ft-lb) covers 14 mm work with more room. So match the body to your torque spec first.
Neighbor sizes: 13 mm and 15 mm
One size down, 13 mm is the common M8 hex. However, Snap-on offers the 13 mm open-end head in J shank only, as the QJOM13A. One size up, the QYOM15A takes 15 mm hex nuts on a Y body. So a Y-shank kit for small fittings starts with the QYOM14A and grows from there.
Fitting jobs for the Snap-on QYOM14A open end head
Hydraulic power units and lube systems use many fittings that a socket cannot cover. For example, a tube nut on a 14 mm adapter needs side entry. The QYOM14A slides onto the flats while the tube stays in place. Also, its slim depth helps it pass under a clamp or a bracket. However, a flare nut head grips better on soft tube nuts that a jaw might spread.
Look after the QYOM14A
Wipe oil off the jaw and fitting before each pull, because a wet jaw can slip. Then check the shank and pin for burrs. Also send the Y body for periodic recalibration, as Snap-on advises.

QYOM14A questions
Does the Y shank raise the 14 mm limit?
No. Snap-on rates both the J and Y 14 mm heads at 55 ft-lb.
Is there an X-shank 14 mm open-end head?
No. The X column in Snap-on’s table starts at 17 mm.
Which Y body reads best at 50 ft-lb?
A QC3P150 preset set at 50 ft-lb works well. The QD3IN200B also reaches it, but near the bottom of its scale.
