Description

A 25 mm hex is not part of the ISO bolt series, which goes from 24 mm on M16 to 27 mm on M18. Still, you meet it on some fittings, adapters and machine-specific nuts. The Snap-on QXXM25A box end head puts a closed 12-point ring of that size on an X-shank torque body, so the grip surrounds the whole hex.

Measured size of the QXXM25A

  • Opening: 25 mm, 12-point box end.
  • Shank: X (0.735 in).
  • Fastener center to retaining pin: 4.50 in (QXXM series).
  • O.D.: 37 mm.
  • Head depth: 16 mm.

The UK torque brochure and the source listing agree on those sizes. However, they give different torque limits, and CAT1500i does not list this ring. So we omit the rating until Lost in HCM confirms it.

Ring or open jaw at 25 mm?

CAT1500i lists an X-shank open end head at 25 mm, the QXOM25A, at 52 mm across and 11 mm deep. The QXXM25A ring is narrower at 37 mm, yet deeper at 16 mm. So the ring fits between close neighbors, while the open jaw suits a short hex. Also, a ring grips every corner, so it resists slipping on a final pull. Choose the open jaw only when a pipe or rod blocks the top of the nut.

Driving the Snap-on QXXM25A box end head with an X body

Two X bodies appear in CAT1500i. The QC4P300 presets from 60 to 300 ft-lb, which suits one repeated value on a line. Meanwhile, the QD3IN350A adjusts from 70 to 350 N·m, so it handles changing specs. Both may reach beyond this ring’s limit, so wait for the confirmed rating before you set either one. Then record it on the station sheet for every shift.

Typical 25 mm ring work for the QXXM25A

Fluid-power fittings and hydraulic adapters often carry odd hex sizes like 25 mm. For example, a fitting may sit in the open but close beside other fittings. The Snap-on QXXM25A box end head drops straight over it, and the 12-point bore needs only a short swing to re-engage. As a result, technicians can work along tight rows.

Check 24 mm and 26 mm before ordering

If the hex reads 24 mm, it is probably an M16 part, and the QXXM24A covers it. At 26 mm, the QXXM26A shares the X shank with a slightly larger bore. So measure clean flats with a caliper first. Also, a ring one size too big rounds the corners quickly.

25 mm ring questions

Does a standard ISO bolt use a 25 mm hex?

No. ISO M16 uses 24 mm and M18 uses 27 mm, so 25 mm usually means a fitting or special part.

Why is there no QXXM25A torque limit here?

The two references we checked give different values. Lost in HCM confirms the right figure with your quote.

Is the QXXM25A thicker than the open end version?

Yes. The ring is 16 mm deep, while the X open end head at 25 mm is 11 mm deep.
