Description

Hydraulic manifolds, gearbox plugs and imported machine parts sometimes carry a 20 mm hex that no common ISO bolt uses. When such a part needs a firm, recorded torque, a heavy wrench with a ring head is the safe choice. The Snap-on QXXM20A box end head gives an X-shank torque body that 20 mm reach. Its closed 12-point ring holds all six corners, which matters on costly machined parts.

Rating: confirm it before the first pull

The partner listing and Snap-on’s UK brochure print different maximum working torques for this ring. Because a wrong limit can damage the head, we show neither number. Instead, Lost in HCM confirms the figure for the QXXM20A with your quote. Then set the wrench at or below it.

Which X body to pair with the Snap-on QXXM20A box end head

  • A dual-scale QD3IN350A covers 70-350 N·m, or 59-251 ft-lb, on a 23 in tube.
  • For one fixed value at a line station, the 27 in QC4P300 preset spans 60-300 ft-lb.
  • The CTECH3X250A ControlTech logs each pull from 12.5 to 250 ft-lb.

The X ring holds the fastener 4.50 in from the locking pin. So the head adds real length to the tool. The ControlTech body stores a factor for head length, which keeps the reading honest. For a click body, ask Lost in HCM whether Snap-on calls for a correction.

Why an X ring at 20 mm?

Snap-on also makes 20 mm rings for J and Y bodies, the QJXM20A and QYXM20A. Those suit light specs and short tools. However, a steel fitting with a firm spec can outrun a J body, and the X shank carries more load. In addition, the longer X handle helps when the part sits deep inside a frame. So the Snap-on QXXM20A box end head fits stations that already run an X body.

20 mm X ring questions

Is 20 mm a standard ISO bolt size?

No. ISO 4032 uses 18 mm for M12 and 21 mm for M14. So a 20 mm hex usually marks a fitting or a special part, and you should measure it.

Will the QXXM20A fit beside a flange wall?

It needs about 15 mm from the bolt center to the wall, and it stands 13 mm tall.

Can a CTECH3X250A drive this head?

Yes, it has an X socket. Use its built-in head-length factor so the reading allows for the 4.50 in reach.
