Description
Electronics and instrument lines run on tiny hardware, and some of it carries a 6 mm hex. The Snap-on QJXM6A box end head is the smallest ring in Snap-on’s metric box end table. It mounts on a J-shank (0.425 in) body and holds a closed 12-point grip on the part. As a result, a technician can torque a small nut inside a chassis without rounding its corners.

Which parts carry a 6 mm hex
In the ISO 4032 nut table, 6 mm across the flats belongs to M3.5. However, M3 nuts use 5.5 mm and M4 nuts use 7 mm, so this ring fits neither. In practice, the size also shows up on hex spacers, probe bodies and gauge fittings that follow a maker’s own drawing. So measure the part with a caliper before you order the QJXM6A.
Snap-on QJXM6A box end head at a glance
| Opening | 6 mm, 12-point, closed |
|---|---|
| Shank | J (0.425 in) only |
| Maximum recommended working torque | 180 in-lb (15 ft-lb, about 20.3 N·m) |
| Outside diameter | 11 mm |
| Head depth | 5 mm |
| Pin to fastener center | 2.50 in (QJXM series) |
Snap-on’s UK brochure prints 180 in-lb, and the partner listing gives the same value as 15 ft-lb. Both also show the 11 mm width and 5 mm depth.
In-lb bodies and the 180 in-lb ceiling
- QC1P60 preset, 10-60 in-lb on a 6 in tube: it can never reach the QJXM6A limit.
- QC1P100 preset, 15-100 in-lb on an 8 in tube: also stays well below.
- QC1I200 adjustable, 40-200 in-lb: lock it at 180 or less.
- CTECH1J240A electronic, 12-240 in-lb: cap the target, since its scale runs past the ring.
Snap-on rates QC bodies at plus or minus 4% clockwise from 20 to 100% of full scale. So for a 20 in-lb value, the QC1P60 reads better than a 200 in-lb body.
Working on small parts with the QJXM6A
A 6 mm ring weighs little, yet a long tube can still twist a small part. Therefore, support the work and pull slowly until the click. Also keep the ring flat on the hex, because a tilt can mark soft brass or plated corners. Snap-on warns against breaking fasteners loose with these heads, so use a hand tool for removal. Then wipe the Snap-on QJXM6A box end head and store it dry.

Small hardware questions on the QJXM6A
Can I use the QJXM6A on an ISO M3 nut?
No. ISO M3 nuts have a 5.5 mm hex, so the 6 mm ring would sit loose and could round the corners.
Which body suits a 20 in-lb spec on the QJXM6A?
The QC1P60 preset, because 20 in-lb falls inside the 20 to 100% band of its 60 in-lb scale.
Can the QJXM6A go on a Y wrench?
No. Snap-on lists the 6 mm ring for the J shank only, and a J shank will not lock into a Y body.
