Description
Some bolts sit just beyond the reach of a standard head, behind a lip or inside a recess. The Snap-on QJD16SL ratcheting head adds a little length for those jobs. It carries a 1/2 in ratcheting square drive on a J (0.425 in) shank. However, it places the drive 3.5 in from the retaining pin, not the usual 2.50 in.

QJD16SL specifications
| Square drive | 1/2 in, ratcheting |
|---|---|
| Shank | J (0.425 in) |
| Head O.D. / depth | 1-5/8 in / 3/4 in |
| Pin to fastener center | 3.5 in (QJD-SL series) |
| Ratchet service kit | RKRS80A |
Snap-on QJD16SL ratcheting head versus the QJD16A and QYD16SL
All three heads share a 1/2 in drive and the same 1-5/8 in by 3/4 in head. Still, they differ where it counts. The QJD16A keeps the 2.50 in J spacing and takes the RKRS936 kit. The QJD16SL, by contrast, stretches to 3.5 in and takes the RKRS80A kit. Meanwhile, the QYD16SL moves to a Y shank at 4.43 in. So choose by shank first, then by reach.
What the longer spacing means for your setting
A torque wrench reads torque at the drive, so head length changes the lever. Snap-on sizes its dual-range J heads to one pin-to-fastener distance, and the SL head steps outside that. Therefore, ask Lost in HCM how to set your body before you use the QJD16SL. ControlTech electronic wrenches, for example, include a built-in calibration factor for different head lengths. That feature makes an SL head simpler to use on a CTECH1J240A.
Jobs for the QJD16SL
The extra inch helps on bolts recessed in castings, gearbox covers and deep flanges. In addition, a crowfoot or socket on the 1/2 in drive reaches past a guard without a long extension. Then the ratchet lets you run the bolt down in short strokes. So one J body plus this head covers work that once needed a separate tool.
Servicing the Snap-on QJD16SL ratcheting head
Order the RKRS80A kit when the pawl starts to slip or the reverse lever feels loose. Also clean the drive after oily jobs, because grit wears the teeth. Never break bolts loose with the torque wrench, as Snap-on warns.
Getting a QJD16SL quote
Lost in HCM supplies this head, and SMK Vietnam lists it. Give them your wrench body model, so they can confirm the J fit and the setting method. Then request a QJD16SL quote from Lost in HCM. For other heads, open torque wrench heads and adaptors; for general questions, contact SMK Vietnam.
QJD16SL FAQ
What does SL change compared with the QJD16A?
The drive sits 3.5 in from the retaining pin instead of 2.50 in, and the service kit is RKRS80A rather than RKRS936.
Does a Y-shank wrench take the QJD16SL?
No. It has a J (0.425 in) shank. The Y equivalent is the QYD16SL, with a 4.43 in spacing.
Can it drive a crowfoot?
Yes. Snap-on says its square drive heads let torque bodies work with sockets, crowfoot wrenches and similar attachments.
