Description

The J column of Snap-on’s metric ratcheting box end chart ends at 24 mm, and the Snap-on QJBOERM24A box end head fills that last slot. It puts a 12-point ratcheting ring on a light J-shank body. So a small wrench can run down and torque M16 hardware without leaving the nut.

Snap-on QJBOERM24A box end head, 24 mm 12-point ratcheting ring for J-shank torque wrenches

Largest ring on the J shank

  • Size: 24 mm, 12-point, ratcheting.
  • Shank: J (0.425 in).
  • O.D.: 46.5 mm.
  • Head depth: 15.5 mm.
  • Retaining pin to fastener center: 2.50 in (QJBOER series).

That O.D. is the widest in the J metric set, up from 41.7 mm on the 22 mm head. Likewise, the depth grows from 14.5 mm to 15.5 mm. So the QJBOERM24A asks for the most room of any J ring.

Picking a shank for the 24 mm ring

Snap-on also makes the QYBOERM24A, the same 24 mm ring on a Y shank at 3.0 in spacing. The two heads suit different bodies. J bodies such as the QD2IN100A top out at 100 N·m, while Y bodies such as the QD3IN200B reach 200 N·m. Many M16 joints call for more than a J body offers, so check the spec first. The QJBOERM24A then fits the lower-spec 24 mm joints, for example on covers, guards or soft housings. Because CAT1500i prints no working limit for these heads, ask Lost in HCM to confirm one.

Hardware that takes the Snap-on QJBOERM24A box end head

ISO 4032 and ISO 4017 give M16 nuts and bolts a 24 mm hex. DIN 934 and DIN 933 also use 24 mm for M16, so both standards meet here. By contrast, they split at M10, M12 and M14. That makes 24 mm one of the easier sizes to plan for. Still, gauge any unfamiliar hex before you order.

Clearance and care for the Snap-on QJBOERM24A box end head

At 15.5 mm deep and 46.5 mm across, this ring needs space around the nut. So check the gap to nearby walls before you build it into a station. Keep chips and coolant out of the ratchet, because grit can make the pawl skip. In addition, Snap-on warns against breaking fasteners loose with its torque tools. Free a seized nut with a plain wrench first.
