Description
Injection mold shops change tools often, and every change brings a new set of clamp and plate bolts. The Snap-on QD32500A torque wrench gives mold setters a steady way to load them. It has a 1/2″ square drive and a fixed head. Its adjustable click mechanism sets from 500 to 2,500 in-lb.

Why mold setters reach for the Snap-on QD32500A torque wrench
A mold change runs against the clock, because the press earns nothing until the new tool runs. However, rushed clamp bolts cause their own trouble. Uneven clamping can shift a mold half, mark a platen or loosen a plate after a few thousand shots. So a click wrench with a clear stop lets the setter work fast and load each bolt evenly. In addition, the fixed head on the QD32500A has no ratchet parts to clog with release spray and plastic dust.
Jobs in the tool room and on the press
- Mold clamp and clamp plate bolts during a tool change.
- Die set and stripper plate screws in a stamping shop.
- Ejector housing and support pillar bolts after a mold repair.
- Manifold and plate hardware, when the mold maker gives a value in range.
In each case, read the mold or die drawing first. Then confirm that the value falls between 500 and 2,500 in-lb before you set the QD32500A.
From N·m drawings to the QD32500A scale
Most molds in Vietnam come from Japan, China, Korea or Taiwan, so their drawings tend to list torque in N·m. The QD32500A reads in inch-pounds, which means you convert before you set it. To do that, divide the N·m value by 0.113 and round to the nearest mark.
| Drawing value (N·m) | Set on the QD32500A (in-lb, approx.) |
|---|---|
| 60 | 531 |
| 120 | 1,062 |
| 180 | 1,593 |
| 250 | 2,212 |
Some fitters think in ft-lb instead. For them, the top of the scale, 2,500 in-lb, equals about 208 ft-lb.
Good habits for a shared tool room wrench
A tool room wrench passes through many hands across three shifts. Therefore, keep the QD32500A on a shadow board or in its case, not in a drawer of punches. Wind the scale down to 500 in-lb when the shift ends, because a loaded spring drifts over time. Also wipe off oil and release agent before storage. Never crack a seized bolt loose with it; use a breaker bar, then torque with the click wrench. Finally, log the serial number and book an independent calibration check on a fixed cycle. After a drop, check it at once.
