Description
Snap-on makes a 17 mm IZO insert in every form it offers: open end or ring, on the small or the large fitting. The Snap-on IZ17IR14X18 insert ring is the closed-ring version for the larger 14 x 18 mm receiver. So it lets a heavy IZO body handle 17 mm hex parts too.

Four 17 mm inserts, one IZ17IR14X18
| Part | Type | Fitting |
|---|---|---|
| IZ17OE9X12 | Open end | 9 x 12 mm |
| IZ17IR9X12 | Insert ring | 9 x 12 mm |
| IZ17OE14X18 | Open end | 14 x 18 mm |
| IZ17IR14X18 | Insert ring | 14 x 18 mm |
First, the receiver on your body fixes the fitting. Then the space around the nut decides between ring and open end. Pick the IZ17IR14X18 when a 14 x 18 body can drop straight over the hex.
The body behind the Snap-on IZ17IR14X18 insert ring
In CAT1500i, one ControlTech body carries a 14 x 18 mm IZO/ISO receiver: the CTECHBN340A. It covers 17.0 to 340.0 N·m and is 607 mm long without a head. In addition, ControlTech bodies store a calibration factor for different head lengths. So you choose the stored setting for this ring before the first pull, rather than doing the sums by hand.
When a 17 mm joint suits the small fitting
A 340 N·m body is a big tool for a 17 mm hex. Snap-on calibrates its wrenches across 20 to 100% of full scale, and on the CTECHBN340A that span begins at 68 N·m. Light 17 mm joints therefore sit better on a 9 x 12 body. For example, the CTECHAN135A covers 6.8 to 135.0 N·m with the IZ17IR9X12 ring. Keep the IZ17IR14X18 for the heavier 17 mm joints on the line.
M10 hardware and the 17 mm hex
Under DIN 934 and DIN 933, M10 nuts and bolts measure 17 mm across flats. By contrast, ISO 4032 and ISO 4017 use 16 mm for M10. As a result, older European machines often call for 17 mm, while newer ISO parts may not. Measure the hex before you order the IZ17IR14X18, because a ring that is too large will round the corners.
Snap-on IZ17IR14X18 insert ring in daily use
Push the shank into the receiver until the lock engages, then tug it once to confirm. Next, seat the ring fully on the hex and pull at an even speed. Snap-on warns against using these tools to break fasteners loose, so free a stuck nut with a plain wrench first. Also stay within the rated capacity, and plan the periodic recalibration that Snap-on calls for.
Quote the IZ17IR14X18 through Lost in HCM
SMK Vietnam lists this ring for its partner, while Lost in HCM supplies it and sets the price. Tell them your body model, the number of stations and the joint torque. When that list is ready, ask Lost in HCM for an IZ17IR14X18 quote. More inserts sit in torque wrench heads and adaptors, and SMK Vietnam can help with fit questions.
Fit and limit questions, IZ17IR14X18
Does the IZ17IR14X18 fit a CTECHAN135A?
No. That body has a 9 x 12 mm receiver, so it takes the IZ17IR9X12 ring instead.
Is there an open-end 17 mm insert for the 14 x 18 fitting?
Yes. Snap-on lists the IZ17OE14X18 for nuts that sit on a pipe or behind a cable.
Does Snap-on print a torque limit for the IZ17IR14X18?
Not in CAT1500i. So work inside the rated capacity of the body, and ask Lost in HCM to confirm.
