Description
Quality audits go faster when the torque data already exists. The Snap-on CTLNK3X250 torque wrench builds that record as you work. It is a ControlTech Link digital wrench for 12.5 to 250 ft-lb, with an X-shank receiver for interchangeable heads.

A data trail instead of a clipboard
Every reading carries a time stamp, and the wrench holds up to 1,500 of them. So an auditor can see when each joint reached its value. In addition, lockable presets stop casual changes to a target.
For live control, pair the wrench with Snap-on’s CTLNKCTRL controller. The catalog says it links Link wrenches wirelessly to plant MES and stores up to 5,000 torque events. It can also run without MES as a standalone station.
Accuracy across the Snap-on CTLNK3X250 torque wrench range
| Band | Torque | Accuracy |
|---|---|---|
| 5-19% of capacity | 12.5 to under 50 ft-lb | ±4% CW, ±6% CCW |
| 20-100% of capacity | 50-250 ft-lb | ±2% CW, ±3% CCW |
In other units, the full span runs 150-3,000 in-lb, or 16.9-339 N·m. As a result, one handle can serve small cover bolts and heavier base bolts alike.
Choosing X heads
First, note that the X shank is 0.735 inch thick. It sits between Y at 0.560 inch and Z at 0.990 inch, while J at 0.425 inch is the smallest. Also, standard X heads set the fastener 4.50 inches from the retaining pin. Snap-on sells them separately, and its X box-end heads carry a 240 ft-lb working limit. Therefore, check each head’s own rating before you set a target above 240 ft-lb.
Where the Snap-on CTLNK3X250 torque wrench fits
- Machine and robot base bolts on new production lines.
- Gearbox, coupling and bearing housing bolts.

Audit and QA questions
Can I export the readings to a file?
The catalog mentions a data trail and an MES link, but no file formats. Ask Lost in HCM before you plan an export.
Why stay above 50 ft-lb?
That is 20% of capacity, where Snap-on quotes the tighter ±2% and ±3% figures.
Do Y heads fit?
No. The receiver only accepts X heads.
