Description
A click wrench only tells you that it reached the setting. However, it cannot tell you how far past the setting the operator pulled. The Snap-on CTECH3FR250A torque wrench closes that gap for 1/2 inch joints, because it measures the torque applied and stores each value.

The over-pull problem with click wrenches
Snap-on notes that a click-type wrench can easily go up to 20% over target when the user keeps pulling after the click. In contrast, the CTECH3FR250A warns the operator as the reading climbs. Its yellow, green and red LEDs tell the user when to stop, while a beep and handle vibration back them up. So the operator stops on time, even with ear protection on.
Half-inch joints that need a record
- Suspension, axle and steering bolts in vehicle assembly and repair.
- Pump and motor mounts, as well as gearbox bolts, during plant shutdowns.
- Structural brackets on heavy equipment, where QA wants proof of each joint.
- Audit work, since the USB file of the CTECH3FR250A needs no extra software.

Handling a 26.7 inch flex-head wrench
At 4.5 lb, the CTECH3FR250A feels solid but not tiring. Still, the flex head can swing when you lift the tool, so set its angle before you seat the socket. Then pull smoothly through the target in one stroke. Also, Snap-on warns against using it to break fasteners loose, so keep a breaker bar for removal work.
