Description

Track rollers, slewing rings and ship engine mounts use bolts that few hand tools can measure. The Snap-on VERSA5S1500A torque sensor reaches that class. It has a 1-inch square drive and reads from 150 to 1,500 ft-lb on a Versatorq meter. That makes it the top size in the Versatorq 2 sensor line.

Where heavy bolting needs proof

  • Mining and quarry fleets that rebuild undercarriages.
  • Shipyards that fit engines, shafts and deck machinery.
  • Steel structure and crane crews on large connections.
  • Cement, sugar and paper mills with big gearbox bolts.

In each case, a missed value can mean costly downtime. So a logged reading from the VERSA5S1500A gives the supervisor a record, not just a signature.

Using the Snap-on VERSA5S1500A torque sensor

Fit the sensor between a 1-inch breaker bar and the socket. Next, connect the coiled cord to the meter and pick Track or Peak mode. Then pull slowly and steadily until you reach the target. Because the sensor reads the twist directly, bar length does not change the result.

Snap-on lists a 92-inch cord on this model, so the meter can stay well away from the bar. The body measures 2.4 inches across, not counting the side-mounted connector, and 4.4 inches long.

Sizing the top of the range

Snap-on rates accuracy at ±1% of reading from 10 to 100% of the sensor range. In practice, aim the VERSA5S1500A at targets between roughly 300 and 1,300 ft-lb. For loads near the bottom, the 3/4-inch VERSA4S600A often gives a better read. Also confirm that your sockets and bars match the 1-inch drive.

Versatorq 1 or Versatorq 2?

Lost in HCM lists this sensor under both Versatorq 1 and Versatorq 2 sensors. Snap-on confirms the Versatorq 2 meter as its partner. However, if you plan to use an older Versatorq 1 meter, ask Lost in HCM to check compatibility first.
