Description
Camera modules, phone frames and circuit boards use screws so small that a heavy hand can ruin them. The Snap-on VERSA1S20A torque sensor measures at that scale. It reads 2 to 20 in-oz on a 1/4-inch drive, and it reports to the Versatorq 2 meter. That makes it the finest range in the family.

Why ounce-inches matter in electronics
Many electronics drawings call for torque in in-oz or cN·m, not ft-lb. At that level, a common screwdriver gives no feedback at all. However, the VERSA1S20A turns each tiny twist into a number. So a process engineer can confirm that a fixture screw sits at spec without cracking the board.
Fingertip control with the Snap-on VERSA1S20A torque sensor
Snap-on gives this model a knurled handle for fingertip control. In other words, the operator can spin it with two fingers, just like a precision driver. The body measures only 0.5 inch across and 2.9 inches long. Meanwhile, a 48-inch cord leads to the meter on the bench.
Accuracy at the low end
Snap-on rates the VERSA1S20A at ±2% of reading, while most larger sensors carry ±1%. Even so, that is a strong figure for such light loads. Also note that the meter ignores readings under 0.5% of full scale in Track mode and 2% in Peak mode. Therefore stay inside the listed 2-20 in-oz band.
Typical stations
- Smartphone and tablet assembly.
- Camera, lens and optical module lines.
- Hard disk, sensor and connector fitting.
- Medical device and hearing product benches.
Each of these lines handles screws light enough to suit the VERSA1S20A, so the sensor fits right in.
For screws above 20 in-oz, move up to the VERSA1S10A, which reads 1-10 in-lb. If your plan involves electric screwdrivers, ask Lost in HCM whether this sensor suits that use.
Handling tips
First, work on an ESD-safe mat when the sensor sits near open boards. Also keep the knurled grip clean, because oil reduces control. Store the VERSA1S20A in its case, and plan regular checks with an outside calibration lab.

Electronics engineers ask
What is the range of the VERSA1S20A?
It reads 2 to 20 in-oz on a 1/4-inch drive.
Why is its accuracy ±2%?
Snap-on rates the two smallest sensors, the VERSA1S10A and VERSA1S20A, at ±2% of reading, while larger models carry ±1%.
Can the meter display cN·m?
Yes. The Versatorq 2 meter offers seven units, including cN·m and in-oz.
