Description
Robot screwdriving cells report their own torque, but who checks the robot? The Snap-on VERSA1S10A torque sensor gives quality teams an independent view. It is a 1/4-inch drive Versatorq 2 sensor with a 1 to 10 in-lb range. That band covers many laptop, printer and small motor screws.

An outside check on automated screwdriving
Controllers can drift, bits wear and screws vary from lot to lot. Therefore many plants pull finished parts and recheck a sample by hand. With the VERSA1S10A, a technician reads the value on the Versatorq 2 meter in Peak mode. Then the team compares it with the robot log, and gaps show up fast.
During new program trials
When engineers set up a new screw program, they need a reference. For instance, they can tighten a few joints by hand with the sensor to find a sound target. After that, they load the value into the cell and confirm results with the same tool.

How it captures the load
The VERSA1S10A works as a short link in the drive train. So all the twist from the driver passes through it on the way to the screw. The meter, in turn, displays that load in any of seven units. Snap-on designs the chain around hand tools such as ratcheting drivers. If you want to run it on a powered screwdriver, ask Lost in HCM to confirm the fit first.
Choosing between the two smallest sensors
First, pick the VERSA1S20A for very light screws in the 2-20 in-oz band. Choose the VERSA1S10A when targets sit between about 2 and 9 in-lb. Finally, for heavier screws, the VERSA1S50A reaches 50 in-lb.

Automation team questions
What range does the VERSA1S10A cover?
It reads 1 to 10 in-lb on a 1/4-inch drive, with ±2% of reading accuracy.
Does it replace the torque check in the robot controller?
No. It gives an independent hand check, so you can confirm what the controller reports.
What comes with the Versatorq 2 meter?
Snap-on lists a carrying case, mini USB cable, belt clip and batteries. Sensors come separately.
