Description
Gas pipelines, compressor stations and terminal manifolds use large flanged joints with heavy stud bolts. A flange seals only when every stud carries a similar load, so the tightening must stay even. The Snap-on TEX2005TL torque wrench helps pipeline crews reach the target and see it. It is a U.S.-reading Torqometer T-handle head with a signal light that marks the preset value.

Flange bolting with the Snap-on TEX2005TL torque wrench
Most flange procedures tighten studs in a star pattern over several passes, each at a higher share of the final value. With a light signal head, the fitter sets the target for the pass, then pulls until the lamp shows. So the crew does not need to read a dial at an awkward angle on a pipe rack. Then the next pass starts at a new setting.
TEX2005TL row in CAT1500i
| Feature | TEX2005TL |
|---|---|
| Input drive | 1 in female square |
| Output drive | 1-1/2 in male square |
| U.S. range | 2,000 ft-lb |
| Increments | 25 ft-lb |
| Length / width / head depth | 10-7/8 in / 4-3/8 in / 4-7/16 in |
| Optional handles | 82TQP T bar (18 in), 85TQP extension (31 in) |
These figures come from the U.S. T-handle table in Snap-on catalog CAT1500i. The same row lists the TEX2005TFU as the follow-up twin. In addition, the table says its wrenches do not include a certificate of calibration. Snap-on offers one when you add a C to the stock number.
The 1-1/2 inch output on the TEX2005TL
Big flange studs take large nuts, and many large sockets use a 1-1/2 inch drive. This head accepts a 1-inch handle on top, yet it drives those sockets directly. As a result, the crew avoids an adapter in the load path. Meanwhile, the 82TQP T bar or 85TQP extension handle gives the leverage for a two-hand pull.
Accuracy range of the TEX2005TL
Snap-on’s standard grade holds within 2% of reading from 20% of full scale to full scale. For this head, the band opens at 400 ft-lb and tops out at 2,000 ft-lb, or about 2,712 N·m. Therefore, early light passes below 400 ft-lb may suit a smaller head. Also note that the TEX2003TL covers 2,000 ft-lb with a 1-inch output instead.
Field care for the TEX2005TL
- Check that the signal light works before each shift.
- Keep the head square to the stud, since a tilted pull adds side load.
- Never exceed 2,000 ft-lb, and never use the head to free seized nuts.
- Wipe off dust and grease, then store the head in a dry case.
In addition, send the Snap-on TEX2005TL torque wrench for calibration on your site’s cycle, because a signal head drifts like any other.

Pipeline crew FAQ
Does the TEX2005TL keep a peak reading?
No, it signals the preset value with a light. If you need a held peak for the record, ask about the TEX2005TFU follow-up model.
Can it read in metric units?
The head reads ft-lb only. For dual scales, Snap-on lists the TEXC2005TL with ft-lb and kg·m.
Does Lost in HCM tag it for any industry?
Yes, Lost in HCM tags this model for hydroelectricity. However, the head also suits any large flange job within its range.
