Description
Small inch lines on gauges, oil feeds and pilot circuits rarely need much torque. They do need it applied evenly, often in a space where the handle barely moves. The Snap-on RTWH40JSL flare nut head handles that with a 5/8 in ratcheting 12-point ring on a J shank (0.425 in). As a result, it fits the light J bodies that read low values well.

Light J bodies for the Snap-on RTWH40JSL flare nut head
- CTECH1J240A ControlTech: 12-240 in-lb, with stored readings.
- CTECHL1J240A: the same range in an aluminum body of about 1.0 lb.
- QC1I200 adjustable: 40-200 in-lb in 1 in-lb steps.
- QC2I75 adjustable: 5-75 ft-lb in 0.5 ft-lb steps.
- QD2IN50A dual scale: 10-50 N·m.
Choose a body whose range places your value in its upper half. For example, a 150 in-lb spec sits well on the QC1I200 or the CTECH1J240A. Snap-on also builds the RTWH40YSL at 5/8 in for Y bodies, yet those bodies start at higher values.
How far the RTWH40JSL sits from the pin
CAT1500i places RTWHJ heads 3.50 in from the retaining pin to the fastener center. Solid QJRXS flare heads sit at 2.50 in, so the Snap-on RTWH40JSL flare nut head adds a full inch of lever. Therefore a click setting taken straight from the scale will not match the torque at the nut. The ControlTech J bodies store a factor for different head lengths. With a QC or QD body, ask Lost in HCM for Snap-on’s correction method first.
Fittings that take a 5/8 in ring
On many 37-degree JIC systems, the -5 swivel nut for 5/16 in tube measures 5/8 in. Some SAE 45-degree flare nuts use the same hex. However, makers differ, so put a caliper on the nut first. Note also that 5/8 in equals 15.88 mm. A 16 mm metric nut therefore will not enter the RTWH40JSL ring, and Snap-on supplies metric sizes on special order instead.
Looking after the RTWH40JSL ratchet
Small heads pick up grit from oily lines quickly. So wipe the ring and the slot after each job, and turn the ratchet by hand to feel for a smooth action. Keep the Snap-on RTWH40JSL flare nut head apart from heavy heads in the drawer, since a knock can pinch the slot. Finally, never use it to break a seized nut loose, as Snap-on warns for its interchangeable heads.
Snap-on RTWH40JSL flare nut head supply in Vietnam
Lost in HCM supplies the RTWH40JSL and quotes it, while SMK Vietnam lists it for that partner. Give the team your J body model and the joint value. A short message is enough: ask Lost in HCM to price a 5/8 in J ratchet, the RTWH40JSL. Neighboring sizes appear under torque wrench heads and adaptors, and you can contact SMK Vietnam for help.
RTWH40JSL: shank, limit and next size
Will a Y-shank wrench accept the RTWH40JSL?
No. A Y body needs the RTWH40YSL, which turns the same 5/8 in nut.
Does Snap-on publish a load limit for the RTWH40JSL?
CAT1500i gives no rating column for its ratcheting flare heads. So set the body to the joint spec, and ask Lost in HCM about limits.
What is the next J ratchet above 5/8 in?
The RTWH44JSL, at 11/16 in.
