Description

Big inch tube nuts take many turns to run down, and on a crowded manifold the handle may move only a few degrees. The Snap-on RTWH104YSL flare nut head works those nuts at 1-5/8 in. Its slotted ring passes over the tube and seats on the nut. Then it ratchets back between strokes, so the Y torque body never leaves the fitting.

Last row of the CAT1500i ratchet table

In Snap-on’s CAT1500i, the inch ratcheting flare nut table ends at 1-5/8 in, and the RTWH104YSL fills that final row. It comes with a Y shank only, because the J column stops at 7/8 in. Lost in HCM also lists a larger 1-7/8 in RTWH120Y. However, that part does not appear in the same table.

Opening 1-5/8 in (41.28 mm), 12-point, ratcheting, open ring

Metric sizes Special order, per Snap-on

Convert before you order

In metric terms, the 1-5/8 in opening measures 41.28 mm. So a 42 mm metric nut is too big for the ring. A 41 mm nut, on the other hand, leaves about a quarter millimeter of play, which can round its corners under load. Keep the Snap-on RTWH104YSL flare nut head for inch fittings, and ask Lost in HCM about a metric special order for metric lines.

Setting a Y body for the longer reach

With the RTWH104YSL, the nut sits 4.43 in from the locking pin. That is longer than the 3.00 in of Snap-on’s solid Y rings, so the nut sees more torque than a click scale shows. The CTECH2Y100A ControlTech body, rated 5-100 ft-lb, stores a factor for head length. For a QD3IN200B or QC3P200, ask Lost in HCM how Snap-on wants the value corrected.

Big-line work for the Snap-on RTWH104YSL flare nut head

Heavy inch tube runs on US-designed presses, loaders and cranes often end in large swivel nuts. Those nuts sit close to valve blocks and other lines, so the ratchet saves many resets. Nut sizes vary by maker, though. Therefore, measure each hex across the flats before you order.

Three RTWH104YSL checks

Why is there no J version at 1-5/8 in?

The J column in CAT1500i ends at 7/8 in. So at 1-5/8 in, only a Y body can carry the ratchet.

Will it turn a 41 mm metric nut?

Not safely. The ring measures 41.28 mm, so a 41 mm nut sits loose. Ask Lost in HCM about a metric special order.

Does the RTWH104YSL carry a published torque limit?

CAT1500i prints no rating column for these ratchets. Lost in HCM can check Snap-on’s figure with your quote.
