Description

ISO gives M22 bolts and nuts a 34 mm hex, and that size turns up on heavy frames, slewing parts and large machine bases. Those joints usually carry high torque, so they suit a Z-shank tool. The Snap-on QZXM34ADP box end head provides a 34 mm, 12-point ring for that job, with dual pins to lock it into the body.

Sizes and fit of the QZXM34ADP

  • Opening: 34 mm, 12-point box end.
  • Shank: Z (0.990 in) with dual retaining pins.
  • O.D.: 48 mm.
  • Head depth: 19 mm.
  • Pin to fastener center: 5.75 in (QZXM series).

The UK brochure and the source agree on the width and depth. On the torque limit, though, they differ, and the brochure lists the QZXM34A rather than this DP part. So Lost in HCM confirms the rating when they quote.

Box ring or open jaw for M22

CAT1500i lists a Z open end head at 34 mm too, the QZOM34ADP. That jaw spans 68 mm and stands 14 mm deep. The QZXM34ADP ring, by comparison, is only 48 mm across but 19 mm deep. So the ring fits between close bolts on a flange, while the jaw reaches a nut on a long stud. For final torque on an exposed bolt head, the ring gives the surer grip.

Using the Snap-on QZXM34ADP box end head on a Z body

The QD4IN800A is the Z dual-range body in CAT1500i. It reads 150 to 800 N·m, or about 129 to 572 ft-lb. Its table carries a dual-pin note, and the DP suffix shows this ring has two pins. Before you set it, get the head limit from Lost in HCM. Then keep your value below that figure, even though the body reads higher.

M22 joints worth a ring

Column base bolts, gearbox feet and press bolster bolts can use M22 on heavy plant. For example, a row of M22 bolts on a frame may sit close together, so a wide jaw cannot pass between them. The narrower Snap-on QZXM34ADP box end head can. Also, grade and lubrication change the right value, so always take it from the drawing.

Neighbor sizes and shanks

At 32 mm, the brochure lists the QZXM32A, and at 36 mm, the M24 size, it lists the QZXM36A. In addition, Y and X rings exist at 34 mm for lower specs than the QZXM34ADP. Older or non-ISO M22 hardware may carry a different hex, so measure the flats before you order. That check costs a minute and saves a return.

M22 ring FAQ

Does the QZXM34ADP fit ISO M22 bolts?

Yes, if the bolt or nut has the standard 34 mm ISO hex. Measure older hardware first.

Why is the 34 mm ring narrower than the open jaw?

A ring needs no open arms around the hex. So the QZXM34ADP is 48 mm across, while the QZOM34ADP is 68 mm.

What torque does the QZXM34ADP carry?

Our two Snap-on sources disagree, so Lost in HCM confirms it with the quote.
